Mukti, the FOSS festival of the college kicked off yesterday. It is, I
think probably the only such fest in eastern India.
The inaugral ceremony was held at 9 in the morning yesterday. As we
had classes, i wasn't able to attend it. But I heard that TKS, the new
Director gave a riveting speech. But more importatntly, he declared
the second half off, to give a chance to everyone to participate in
Mukti. The first positive thing that the new director has done in
college, I might add! :P
N-Core was the first event on the agenda. Its prelims was held on the
day before, ie on Thursday. The finals was held in the afternoon @
around 3. It was an event based on Basic Engineering Funda (read
Mechanics and aptitutde) and as such was mainly aimed at the core
branches! I aint sure about who won it. Will keep updaating.
The next event was Media Cryptex Booth (MCB) conducted by MNTC. It was
a refreshing change from last time around, where the evnt was marred
by flaws and a heavy concentration on Maths. It was of three rounds,
with each round proving to be a good challenge. A thoroughly enjoyable
experience.; The results of the prelims will be announced today, with
the finals on Sunday.
There was a talk on System programming in DM Sen followed by the
prelims of Hack the Code and Konfigure, both aimed at the coding and
networking crazy people in college! Being not a part of that group, I
spent my time loitering around and didn't participate. Though from the
noises coming from inside the arena, I should say that it got everyone
all hyped up!
In the meantime, I was going through the menu @ the foodstall. This
time, GLUG got Pavillion as their sponsors. Its a new place that has
come up where YAYA's once was, near the ticket counter of 89 Cinemas.
The food turned out to be very good, even better than the usual DSMS
stall that comes up during Aarohan!
The last event of the day was Linquizzitor. This kickstarts Quizzincs
officila fest The Quizzitch Cup. I take great pride in mentioning the
fact that ours is the only Quiz Club in the whole of eastern India to
conduct a quiz fest (IIT KGP included!)...a thoroughly enjoyable
experience to all who braved the 11pm cold to sit @ the arena. An avid
quizzer myself, I gave this one a miss though, as the cold made me
dead drowsy!...but there are 3 more quizzes to go, and the
championship awaits!

Day 2 updates tomorrow! Cya till then!

Mukti Day 3:

The Final day of the fest kickstarted with the finals of MCB (Media
Cryptex Booth)...MNTC really managed to pull off an excellent event
this time around...though the audience for the finals were limited
because of the fact that FreePL (the flagship event of Mukti, which
involves auctioning cricket players to form a winning team) went
overnight! It is a testament to its popularity that people braved the
frigid cold to stay up and participate. There was even a Sports &
Entertainment (SPENT) quiz following that, in which, again, the teams
from outside, namely JU bagged top honours!
MCB in the morning was followed by the last quiz of the Quizzitch
Cup...this was conducted by Aveek Mukherjee (an alumni of the college
and a member of Exquizzinc, the club made of ex-quizzinc members!).
The Quiz was made by Exquizzinc members and as such was attested by
the high quality of the questions...It was a thoroughly enjoyable
experience, especially some of the more innovative rounds!
The Quiz was followed by a couple of guest lectures...they were
conducted by alumni of the college themselves, people who had passed
out and are placed in RedHat!! I hear that the lectures were friendly
and informative
This was followed by the Valedictory ceremony, which was again marred
by the lack of an audience. It did turn out to be a success though,
with almost all the prize winners raking in big money! Smiles could be
seen all around, on the faces of the winners, as well as on the faces
of members of Team Quizzinc and Team Mukti! This was followed
(naturally) by a photoshoot in which everyone clamoured to get on
stage...yours truly was left with the cams, trying to get everyone on
stage in a single frame!!
This was followed by a Djing session by DJ Shrink (an alumni from
RedHat)...though shortlived, it gave everyone an opportunity to break
a leg, so as to speak!

And that closed this years edition of Mukti...With monday a holiday
and tuesday Saraswati Puja, that leaves just two solid days of classes
before Aarohan 2k11...thats what makes this college great...not a dull
moment!! :D
