Are there any plans to have a JDBC backend (like Hibernate)?

I did start working on a pure JDBC backend, to complement the existing
Hibernate backend. It's probably around 70% complete (and would need
to be customized for specific database, which is one reason to prefer
Hibernate). The last related thing I worked on was making the tests
run across backends, so the work could be validated.

At the moment it's not high on the priority list, so I'm not sure when
I'll get back to it.
