Hi,

I'm checking out open source workflow engines and I came across this one, but I don't see much activity on the forums since last year and even in terms of commits. Is this project still being actively developed?

Bottom-line, not really. I try to address bugs if they are reported,
but there is no new feature development. Until I have a job doing
workflow, I'm unlikely to be able to put much time into it. I think
Sarasvati's feature set is still very compelling, but unless you are
willing to pick up some of the maintenance, it might not be the right
project for you.

Good luck,
Paul

Thanks a lot for your quick response.

I didn't really put much time in this research but I can not help noticing the sheer number of workflow engines that were abandoned and discontinued in the past two years. It's as if workflow has gone out of fashion all of a sudden after a long period of hype.

Even on the standards side BPEL4People which was supposed to become a big thing has not made it as a standard yet despite the fact that it's been there for almost 4 years now.

So far, I've only come across these BPM/Workflow open source projects which seem promising.
1. jBPM from JBoss
2. Bonita

I've also seen Imixs, Together and Flux but a quick look at their websites was not that encouraging.

Since you've been interested in this topic, do you happen to know the big players in the market now?

I haven't really researched it for 3-4 years now. Depending on what
you're doing jBPM might be ok. I remember it being 75% of what I
wanted. Maybe it's filled in the gaps (and your needs are likely
different than mine were). I'd try a couple and build some small
workflows to see how they feel.

Cheers,
Paul
