Subject: National conference on Community Based Approaches for Inclusive Growth (Microfinance, Livelihood Promotion and Social Agenda) during 14 & 15 December 2012 in Hyderabad
Dear Friends,
Greetings from ENABLE!
Sub: National conference on Community Based Approaches for Inclusive Growth (Microfinance, Livelihood Promotion and Social Agenda) during 14 & 15 December 2012 in Hyderabad
In light of UN International Year of Cooperatives 2012 (UN IYC 2012) and recognizing the importance of informal cooperative movement i.e. SHGs, SHG federations and producer organizations, it is evident that the community based microfinance model needs a much greater attention of the government, banks, practitioners and others. The huge potential of the SHG model is yet to be harnessed for financial inclusion, inclusive growth and women’s empowerment. It is appropriate time to take stock of the current status of the community based microfinance in India and to develop strategies for augmenting the strengths of SHG movement to foster empowerment of poor women and ensure their financial inclusion to secure sustainable livelihoods.
To celebrate UN IYC 2012, National Network Enabling the Self Help Movement in India (ENABLE)[1] in collaboration with GIZ – NABARD, World Bank, National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), Andhra Bank, Andhra Pradesh Cooperative Bank (APCOB), National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (ni-msme) and UN Organisations working in India, is planning to organise a two-day conference in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, on 14 & 15 December 2012. The theme of the National Conference is “Community Based Approaches for Inclusive Growth (Microfinance, Livelihood Promotion and Social Agenda)”. The objectives of the conference are:
· Create a platform for stakeholders of community based microfinance to share their experiences, innovations and learning to gain insights to deal several key issues faced by the SHG movement;
· Create awareness among various stakeholders about the contributions of Community based microFinance on empowering women and enhancing socio-economic status of its members
· Plan how SHGs, CBMFIs and SHPIs can strengthen the national movements in achieving Financial literacy and Financial Inclusion
· Come up with appropriate policy recommendations and road map to enable SHGs, SHG federations and producer organizations to evolve into self-reliant & sustainable institutions in inclusive development paradigm
The conference is designed for both the community members and major stakeholders like governments, banks, voluntary agencies, research organizations, producer organizations, private sector, community based organizations, national and international donors. The conference includes one-day field visit for the interested participants of the conference on 13 December 2012.
Considering the experience and interest of your organization in promotion/facilitation of Community Based Organisations (CBOs), you are cordially invited to participate in the conference at ni-msme, located at Yousufguda, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. We request you to nominate two women representatives from the SHG federations / Cooperatives or other forms of community based organisations promoted by you and one senior level staff from your organisation to make the conference meaningful with your participation and valuable contribution.
