Hi friends! A few brief pieces of news below, punctuated by emojis for those of you with Gmail.

My new short story, "Ironing" is a winner of the 2013 Lilith Fiction Contest.. Find it online, for subscribers, at most Barnes and Noble branches and your local radical feminist bookstore (or Indie bookstore).*  First line: "Esther watched Tennis Boy amble across the hotel lobby, racket slung across his back, and decided on the spot he’d be her first boyfriend."

*(If all of these are impossible ways for you to access it, and you really want to read it, email me. )

I wrote a personal essay/literary memoir about reading Dubliners in Ireland for Vol. 1 Brooklyn: "I did not go to Ireland, Stephen Daedalus-style, to forge within the smithy of my soul the uncreated conscience of anyone at all, much less my race. But at 20, with a round face and dyed red hair, I did choose exile."

I also have a flash fiction piece at S-Tick, a new feminist e-zine, that I really love and is a bit of a departure for me. It begins: "Sherry ought to have been having a good time at Jessica’s pool party, sashaying around in her caftan and oversized shades, but the dead girl at the bottom of the jacuzzi made it hard."

I am especially proud of the work I did on the Forward's "Jewish and Transgender" series, including an in-depth feature on what happens when trans kids "come out" at camp, and an interview with the founder of the first transgender-specific camp.

A few more pieces here and there on subjects including Jewish American Princesses and a fabled NYC diner that closed its doors.

Two pieces--a listicle at Rolling Stone's website and a QA in The Rumpus--about abortion rights.

And meanwhile, I've been plugging away at my blog and at The Sisterhood.

That's it! See you when the weather gets cold...and be sure to read Simon's conversation with Sir Paul.
