Hello,

This is my humble setup. An old 6 feet satellite dish and the feed horn with the two pieces from Ted Cline website. I am kindly requesting help with directions for the software and an issue with the feed horn.

Ok the feed horn or LNB is showing an internal resistance of 10K ohms. Is this normal or it is bad?

Second I would like to have a dedicated computer for the display, so I have two old laptops with windows 8 and 10. Could you say which is better for ezRA software? Also I saw traffic with a few issues with ezRA software. If you can guide me with which software to use so I do not get lost and give up I would be ever grateful. Thanks again for your help.

Flavio.

Hi Flavio,

Maybe both could work ?
But between the two old laptops with Windows 8 and 10, I suggest the (newer and faster ?) Windows 10 ?
And, if problems, then other helpers are more likely to have the Windows 10.

What do you plan for an antenna feed ?
Maybe just a simple wire dipole would be a start on that big dish ?
Or a wire loop ?

Good luck !
Keep us updated.

Win8 is the worst windows os of all. . .until 11. 10 is good for your use, but lock out upgrades and dedicate the computer. You can put a good Linux on the win8 machine.

Ted for the antenna feed I was hoping to use the feed horn that the dish came with. As I mentioned it is showing 10K ohms internal resistance. But if this is not suitable and the dipole or wire loop is better could you give me an example and construction of a suitable dipole or wire loop for this dish. I can build a dipole or wire loop but may need dimensions and # of wire turn on the loop antenna. Also I would like to assume that I would position the dipole or wire loop on the dish as it is done for a regular LNB or feed horn. No rush on the diagrams.
Thanks.

Mint is fine, as is Ubuntu and the rest of the "front runners".  You should have one that you like. They mostly differ in the displays.most do not differ in the kernel which is the guts.

Dear Flavio,
Either computer should be fine. As long as they can be dedicated.to this task and left on 24/7.
I use ezRA a lot, and I do not think there are any major issues with it - brilliant software! Highly recommended!
Your other alternative is SDR Sharp with IFAverage - also a great choice. In fact, ezRA can process SDR#/IFAverage data files, so doesn't matter which you choose - just go for it!!!
My own setups can be seen on www.astronomy.me.uk
