I have  been trying  to install the  new  release  of  Ubuntu  26.04  on  a  fresh  external  SSD   drive   with failure.   I have followed the instructions  ... down loading  the .iso file,  burning to  known  good  USB  stick  using   Balena Etcher ,  booting  from USB drive and  installing  to  new SSD drive.  All  works  during  installation  but  when  I reboot into  new  SSD drive  I get only the try  Ubuntu version???

Any one else?

So  I  tried installing  Ubuntu 24.04.4 on my new SSD   with no problems.  This  leads me to think  there is  problem with installation of  Ubuntu  26.04  LTS
????

I use Ubuntu sometimes and may be able to help.
I haven’t seen this issue though.

It sounds like it’s trying to boot a demo version off the usb instead of the installed version on your SSD.

Have you tried booting with the USB unplugged?

If it still happens with the USB unplugged, check the UEFI boot entries, the installer may not have written a bootloader entry correctly

I’m on peet...@gmail.com if you want to take this offline.

Hi Peet,    yes  I  removed the USB stick     and   I still   boot  into the demo  version.....

I am thinking  this is a problem   with  the installer   the installer may not have written a bootloader entry correctly

OK, we can check that.

If you boot up the demo version and then open the terminal and type: sudo efibootmgr -v
This will list all UEFI boot entries

If you can't see Ubuntu in there, then this confirms that it wasn't written correctly.

This will tell you if if the SSD has an EFI partition with the bootloader actually on it: lsblk -f

Another thing to check (actually check this first) is if your BIOS is configured to check external SSDs for potential boot targets.
Have a look in your bios and look for something like:  "boot from external device"

A few months ago, I was installing several different distros just for fun and
yes, Ubuntu 26.04 gave me the same problem you are having. Didn't try to fix
it, just deleted the partition and installed the next distro on the list.

I  finally  have it   sorted out...    I have managed   to  configure    UEFI   on my  mini pc   to allow  me a choice of  which   Ubuntu  version  I want  to boot   into..     I  wont  go into  to details  here   except   to say   I  pressed   Delete   on  boot    and   reset   the   the  boot  sequence.   My  mini pc is  probably   different  from  yours.

I  discovered  that  my  Kicad   snap  installation    was a  mess...    the    spice   simulation    would  not  work. So  I  deleted it  and installed  from  PPA  now  I can  do   LtSpice  simulations  no problems
    Version 10.xxx
