I am visiting New York for couple days after the Eastern Conference this weekend. Can anyone advise me on good restaurants where I can buy food that is not burgers, hot dogs or pizzas?

I have found a place called Russ and Daughters and got a wonderfully delicious tuna bagel sandwich.  Wow!
I also got myself a photo with a real NY cop ( after which he slapped the cuffs on!)

Andrew:

The last time I ate in NY NY was in the mid 80's. There are many places
to find a real meal. Not just a Burger and fries or pizza. I can't
believe that this has changed over the intervening years.

What I can say is that you need to include the neighborhood where you
are staying. I also hope that you have turned in your rental car. 🙂

Clear skies and gentle breezes,

Hi Andy,
While I wouldn't be adverse to a NY slice of pizza (supposed to be the best), to each his own. I did have a transplanted New Yorker tell me once that "Whaddya want?" from a service person in NY is equivalent to "Good afternoon; may I help you?" in Austin, so think of them as really, really direct instead of rude.
Good luck,
Wende

Thanks Wende! Good advice although so far I hadn't worried about that. One man's "buddy" is another's "love" or even "duck"!
Hope you are well and it was lovely to hear you at the conference although I really wish I could have met you in person.
Andy

NY...as in NYC?  Going to NY and NOT having dogs or pizza is a crime.

Try Sparks Steakhouse....it's where John Gotti gunned down Big Paul Castellano.  It's a historic place.  NYC style.
