New BAA Meteor Radio Scatter meeting Monday 29 June at 19:00 UTC (20:00 BST)

We start a new topic as part of the BAA Monday evening practical amateur radio astronomy series of online meetings (joining the existing muon detection, VLF, H-Line, GNU Radio meetings). On Monday 29 June 2026, we have the inaugural meeting of the BAA Meteor Radio Scatter group. Brian Coleman will be talking to us about progress with the UK meteor beacon located at Mansfield and Sutton Astro, and showing us examples of data collected so far.

 

I will also give an introduction to the topic of radio scatter from meteors and how this can be used to record and count meteor numbers. My talk will be especially relevant to anyone who has never tried this aspect of radio astronomy before, and would like pointers on how to get started.

 

There will be a chance for attendees to discuss their own projects and raise questions and comments. Hopefully, the session will be highly interactive, so that we all learn from each other.
