The session last night was very successful with four participants (plus myself and Adrian providing the support).

I am already getting emails from folks that couldn't make the meeting last night. So I intend to run another session at end of August (once I come back from the Eastern Conference).

Let me know if you are interested in participating and dates/times that suit you. I live in UK but am reasonably flexible as long as not half way through night.

Please also let anyone know who might benefit from such support - no experience in astronomy electronics engineers telecommunications needed!

The participants yesterday included an undergraduate student designing his project, two people living in apartments with limited places to host a radio telescope, and someone who needs a radio telescope that can move with him when he moves house next year.

Yesterday, Adrian and I provided help on designing and making a hydrogen horn, benefits and disadvantages of different types antenna, what to make or buy for a balcony on an apartment building, how to save money by choosing wisely and how to spend money widely(!), how to avoid having to understand anything and still successfully map the Milky Way yourself, options for remote radio astronomy, and many other things.....the 4 participants kept us going for 2.5 hours, with Adrian answering any question that looked like it mentioned a physics or engineering concept, and me demonstrating the practical bumbling hands-on approach that is my hall-mark, but somehow still works!

Thank you very much, Andrew. It was a pleasure discussing with you last night.
It was truly inspiring. For my part, I’m taking away the 'hands-on' approach to building a Yagi antenna.
Thanks for the conversation, and thanks to Adrian as well. Looking forward to our next exchange!

Best Regards,
Guillaume F4JIJ

Thanks for the feedback, Guillaume – it is good to know that Adrian and I were able to offer what people needed.
