Not exactly Radio Astronomy, nevertheless related and encouraging STEM education - the next generation.
Four high‐altitude balloon (HAB) flights were launched from San Antonio (TX) in June and July 2025, each carrying distinct atmospheric and radiation sensors: photovoltaic (PV) cells, electrochemical ozone cell, Geiger–Müller (GM) tube, muon detector, UV sensor, and gamma dose-rate sensor. Our LCATS (Lunar Caves Analog Test Sites) student cohort, a STEM-based academic program, assisted with payload design. Our objectives were to map the tropospheric and stratospheric structure of ozone and UV intensity, identify the Regener–Pfotzer maximum (RPM) for radiation, characterize relativistic muon production, and identify gamma radiation peaks.
The Zoom link will be posted on Thursday 9th. Ask me for the link if not on our distribution list.
