Please find below the Sukkot newsletter from Sar-El HQ Israel.

As you may be aware there has been a change of Israel travel status from DFAT. Reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns, but generally this does not change our willingness and ability to go and help Israel.

Chag Sameach and Shana Tova!

Dear Sar-El Community,

As we approach the holiday of Sukkot, we find ourselves in a complex emotional landscape. While this festive season traditionally symbolizes gratitude, shelter, and unity, many of us carry the weight of recent memories that make celebration feel bittersweet. Last year's Sukkot was marred by tragedy, and the echoes of that day linger in our hearts. For many Israelis, it feels as though we are still caught in the sukkot of 2023, grappling with the aftermath of loss and uncertainty.

This holiday, while a time for gathering with loved ones, also reminds us of the challenges we face as a community. As we build our sukkot and reflect on the themes of resilience and hope, let us acknowledge the ongoing struggles that shape our lives today. Sar-El stands committed to embodying the spirit of support and solidarity, and we are reminded of the importance of coming together in times of adversity.

Let us use this Sukkot not only to honor the memories of those we lost but also to reinforce our dedication to helping one another. As we gather this year, let’s strengthen the bonds that unite us, ensuring that our community remains a source of comfort and strength.

As we navigate this complex period, the need for community support has never been more critical. Our brave soldiers on the front lines in Gaza and the north are fighting round the clock to keep Israel and all of Am Yisrael safe. They require our assistance to provide the logistical support they need to carry out their vital mission.

We urge you to consider making a donation to Sar-El. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to provide essential resources and assistance to our soldiers, ensuring they have what they need to protect our homeland. Every donation, no matter how small, helps us strengthen our mission and support those who are risking everything for our safety.

Additionally, we need your help in spreading the word about Sar-El’s work. In November, we will be visiting America to attend two significant conferences—the Z3 Conference and the JNF Conference. We are seeking volunteers to help us on the ground during these events. If you would like to join us and contribute your support at the conferences, please email us directly.
Join us at the Z3 Conference!
We're excited to announce that we'll be exhibiting at the Community Organizations Fair at the Z3 Conference on November 17th to experience a full day of speakers and vital conversations. This is a unique opportunity for you to connect with local Jewish organizations, schools, and community members.
Stop by our booth to learn more about how we’re shaping the future of the Palo Alto Jewish community. Whether you're interested in our programs, partnerships, or ways to get involved, we'd love to meet you!

We hope to see you there!

The Jewish National Fund (JNF) Global Conference for Israel will be held in Dallas, Texas. This conference will focus on unity and support for Israel, featuring engaging speakers and discussions. If you're interested in joining us and helping with on-the-ground efforts, this is a great opportunity to connect with fellow supporters.

You can register for the conference here before registration closes on November 1, 2024.

If you're interested in joining us at either conference and helping with on-the-ground efforts, please email us directly at kerend@sar-el.org.

This month, we are thrilled to highlight Shoshana Treichel, a dedicated volunteer who has consistently demonstrated her commitment to Sar-El. Recently, Shoshana traveled all the way to the IAC Conference in Washington, D.C., alongside her husband to help at the Sar-El booth. Their efforts to spread the word about our mission and recruit more volunteers have been invaluable in expanding our community.

Shoshana’s passion for our cause is truly inspiring, and she has taken it upon herself to ensure that our message reaches as many people as possible. In her own words, she shares,

"The experience in sar-el far exceeded my expectations. To be with like minded people who had one goal in mind- to serve our Country in its darkest time and to give back was the motive that brought us all together. I was especially moved by so many of the non- Jewish volunteers whose camaraderie was so appreciated by the international Jewish community and the people of Israel. They were truly the light upon nations, and it was wonderful to see people from all walks of life spreading the truth and standing up for Israel.

Wherever you serve is met with warmth, open arms and more appreciation than you can possibly imagine. The work, although sometimes tedious- goes by so fast, because you know you're doing the work of so many reservists that are on the front lines keeping our homeland safe and strong.

I was so moved by my experience, that when Sar-El was coming to Washington DC to participate in the Israel American Conference, I went to volunteer at our booth and convince everyone I could to take some time and come to Israel. To put on the IDF uniform and help our brothers and sisters. We were met with such excitement and it was joyful to share my experiences and educate people on what they can do to help.

My time in Sar-El was truly one of the most fulfilling, meaningful and important things I have done. For the last 11.5 months, I have often felt helpless and ineffective, as the needs in Israel now are greater than ever. Money does not suffice, because it is help and hope that is needed the most. The energy of the volunteers and their personalities are amazing and a piece of Israel stays in all our hearts no matter where we go from there. There isn't a greater Mitzvah, and I look forward to being back in November to serve once again. "

Thank you, Shoshana, for your hard work and dedication! Your efforts exemplify the spirit of Sar-El, and we are grateful to have you as part of our family.

We are excited to announce the return of our Lone Soldier Parent Program, running from December 12-26, 2024! This is a wonderful opportunity to engage, learn, and support one another in our shared journey. Don’t miss out!
