CALL FOR PAPERS: Society for Applied Philosophy Annual Conference 2022
Submission deadline: Monday 17 January 2022.
The Society for Applied Philosophy Annual Conference 2022 will be held at University of Edinburgh, 1-3 July 2022 (the SAP aims to hold an in-person event)
Keynote papers will be given by distinguished guest speakers:
Jennifer Saul (University of Waterloo)
Steve Wall (University of Arizona)
Clare Chambers (University of Cambridge)
Tommy J. Curry (University of Edinburgh)
Open themed event
The event will be an
open themed applied philosophy conference (papers will be given across
a wide range of topics in applied philosophy).
Submission process:
- Papers
submitted for consideration must not have been published, or accepted
for publication in final form, at the time of submission.
- Only one proposal per named individual is permitted (including co-authored papers and panel submissions)
- The conference will be an in-person (non-hybrid) event. If
restrictions determine that the event cannot take place in-person, the
conference will move to an online event. If necessary, a decision will
be taken before registration opens in April 2022.
Further info:
- The conference will host up to 50 individual / co-authored papers across 10 concurrent sessions: 5 papers per session.
- Concurrent sessions will run for 40 mins each: 25–30 min for the speaker’s presentation, 10–15 min for Q&A.
- The conference will host up to five panels running concurrently over a two hour time slot,
- Panel proposals should not exceed four papers to allow sufficient time for speaker presentations and Q&A.
Individual / Co-authored papers:
- Please submit a 1500 word abstract AND 300 word synopsis here.
Panel proposals:
- Please submit a 1500 word outline of the session along with a 300 word abstract for each of the papers in the panel here.
Submission deadline: Monday 17 January 2022.

Short-term Postdoctoral Research Grants 2021-22
Recognising the
difficult employment situation for recent PhDs, the Society is accepting applications for a number of short-term research grants to postdoctoral researchers
who have not yet found a full-time teaching or research position.
5 awards were made in December 2021 :
Didde Boisen Andersen (Aarhus University)
Anna Brinkerhoff (George Mason University)
Benjamin Lange (Ludwig Maximilian University Munich)
Laura Santi Amantini (University of Genoa)
William Tuckwell (University of Melbourne)
Applications for a further round of funding are invited with a deadline of 01 February 2022
Other Funding opportunities
The
Society makes a number of funding opportunities available to its members.
- Event Funding of up to £3000 (deadlines: 01 Jan, 01 May, 01 Sep)
Covid-19 pandemic, Given the ongoing
uncertainty arising from Covid-19, the Society will currently support
only domestic travel costs for events taking place before the 1st
of April 2022. As far as possible, only accommodation, catering and
venues that can be cancelled or amended without penalty should be
booked. For events planned for after the 1st
of April 2022, the Society will consider supporting international
travel costs, subject to the same caveat that, as far as possible,
bookings should be amendable without penalty.

(Members can make applications at any point throughout the year.)
COVID-19 pandemic: Given the ongoing uncertainty arising from Covid-19, the Society will currently support only costs that are not penalised by Covid-related
cancellations. Budgets should be submitted with this prospect in mind,
and applicants should confirm that all proposed bookings can be
cancelled or amended without penalty. The Society will not reimburse
expenses where an activity cannot take place because of Covid-19.

Doctoral Scholarship awards (up to £10,000 in year of award)
Awards are available to UK applicants and to EU applicants
(Applications for academic year 2022-23 can be made from 1 May 2022. Deadline for applications is 13 July 2022.)

they hold a philosophical qualification or are employed as a professional
