SAP Annual Conference 2024

University of Oxford, 28 - 30 June 

(N.B. This will be an in-person event - there will be no hybrid attendance option.)

Open themed event
The event will be an open themed applied philosophy conference (papers will be given across a wide range of topics in applied philosophy).

Funding opportunities

The society is proud to support a range of activities in applied philosophy.
  • Event Funding of up to £3000 (deadlines: 01 Jan, 01 May, 01 Sep)
  • Doctoral Scholarship awards (up to £10,000 in year of award)
    Awards are available to UK applicants and to applicants based in EU / EEA  EFTA countries  
     (Applications can be submitted from 01 May 2023.)
  • Post-Doctoral Fellowships up to two one-year fellowships, worth £16,000 each, will be awarded each year to support post-doctoral research to be undertaken at a university in any country
  • Research Trip support - financial assistance to enable those working in applied philosophy to pursue their research away from their home institution
  • Teaching Relief funding for limited teaching relief to support the completion of a research project (e.g. a monograph or journal article, grant application).
  • Further Support The Society will also consider applications for other forms of research support not covered by the above schemes.

Doctoral Scholarships 2024-25

Each year the Society for Applied Philosophy offers two scholarships for doctoral work in applied philosophy in a UK university, and one further scholarship for doctoral work in applied philosophy in any University in an EU country (subject to a suitable candidate coming forward). The level of each scholarship will be up to £10,000 and will be held for one year. 

The scheme is open from 01 May 2024 to anyone meeting the criteria (you do not need to be a member of SAP to apply).

The closing date for 2024–25 applications is Wednesday 12 July 2024applications can be submitted from 1 May 2024. (Applicants are responsible for ensuring that complete applications, including references, arrive by the deadline.)

Membership
Membership of the SAP is open to anyone interested in its aims, whether or not they hold a philosophical qualification or are employed as a professional philosopher. Benefits include free subscription to the Journal of Applied Philosophy, reduced rates at the SAP Annual Conference, and access to SAP funding opportunities.
