I just bought a Samsung 840 Series SSD.I am in trying to migrate my data from my current laptop's HDD to the SSD.I am using the Samsung Data Migration Software, however it is not working? I am not sure why?It is stucked at 0% forever.
I am only using up 100GB of my current drive. My SSD has a 250GB capacity.I have only 1 drive and I am running it while doing the migration. The software doesn't ask me to restart or anything? I find it weird as in, how can you do a data migration when you are using the drive?
The command you would use is dd if=/dev/sd[x] of=/dev/sd[y] [x] would be replaced with the FROM drive, [y] would be replaced with the TO. If you approach it this way, ask for help and do more research - as you could kill your old hard drive's data if you mess up.
I am migrating from a Samsung 840 EVO to an 850. I am using the Samsung migration software with a cable to the new drive. I have Windows 8.1. After about 4 hours, it was 99% complete. After an additional 4 hours, it is still not complete. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? I don't think any software programs are running. I am still able to use my computer. It will run for the rest of the day (an additional 10 hours or more) while I go to work. Any suggestions?
I love my Samsung 850 EVO SSD, but I could never get the migration software to work (if you Google this, you'll see LOTS of people have the same problem.) I used this no-brainer critter and was able to clone my entire SSD in minutes to the more advanced 850 EVO:
My 850 failed after 8 months of use and had to send it back to Samsung. In the mean time I did a fresh install on an extra Samsung 256 SSD. When the repaired 850 was returned it contained no data so I used the Migration software and 67.8 GB of data was transferred very fast, maybe 10 minutes.
My old SSD (Mushkin) has a Reallocated Sector Count of 38 and Reallocated Event Count of 86 (confirmed with HD Tune Pro, HD Sentinel, and AIDA64 while CrystalDiskInfo says "all good"). That's why I bought a brand new Samsung 870 EVO 1TB. Inside the 870's box, I found a small booklet containing info about Samsung Data Migration and Samsung Magician. I didn't know that I can clone my old SSD to the new one with the data migration tool. I installed these 2 apps and I was about to start the process but I asked myself:
Like many other brands, Samsung offers an official cloning tool. The Samsung Data Migration (SDM) software is designed for data transfer from hard drive to Samsung consumer SSDs including EVO and PRO Series. However, due to some known limitations, you may want to try other clone software for Samsung SSD migration.
You can click here to download the Samsung SSD Data Migration Software. With it, you can easily transfer your current operating system, apps, and user data from HDD to a new Samsung SSD without reinstalling. However, there are also some restrictions you should know.
AOMEI Backupper Professional is a reliable and mighty Samsung data migration software that helps you transfer all contents from old storage including MBR and GPT disks to the new Samsung SSD (and any other branded disks that can be detected) in Windows 11/10/8/7/Vista/XP, and auto-align partitions to optimize target SSDs.
To perform Samsung data migration, you just need to connect the target Samsung SSD to your computer, and run AOMEI Backupper for easy cloning operations. This migration software runs in an intelligent-sector clone mode by default, which copies only used sectors and therefore enables you to clone larger drive to smaller drive successfully.
Now you have entered into the final page. Check SSD Alignment box in the lower left corner to improve its reading and writing speed. You can edit partitions on Samsung SSD before you start if the need ever arises. Finally, click Start Clone to execute Samsung SSD data migration.
