Database Management Specialist

A. Duties. Provide highly technical expertise in the use of DBMS. Evaluates and recommends available DBMS products to support validated user requirements. Define file 

organization, indexing methods, and security procedures for specific user applications.

B. Qualifications. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other related scientific or technical discipline. This position requires 

a minimum of six year’s experience, of which at least four years must be specialized. Specialized experience includes: demonstrated experience using current DBMS’s 

technologies, application design utilizing various DBMS and experience with DBMS internals. General experience includes increasing responsibilities in DBMS systems analysis 

and programming. Demonstrated ability to work independently or under general direction.

1.         With a Master’s Degree (in the fields described in B above): four years general experience of which at least three years must be specialized experience is required.

2.         With ten years of general experience of which at least eight years must be specialized experience, a degree is not required.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Installs SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL 2012 

Upgrade databases to SQL Server 2008 R2 or later. 

Support SQL 2005, 2008, 2008 R2, and optionally SQL 2012 including: 

Backup and restore SQL server databases utilizing backups to disk via SQL or backups to tape via Netbackup. 

Deploys databases and assists developers in deploying databases in SQL Server 2008 R2 or better.  

Conducts performance monitoring and tuning of SQL Server 2005 or better. 

Performs moderately complex systems and database administration. Monitors and tunes appropriate systems to ensure optimum level of performance. 

Creates, manages, and monitors database backup plans. 

Establishing database mirroring and replication as dictated by requirements. 

Monitor and manage transaction logs.
