English Translation of Bharathi's verse-3

    (வெள்ளைத் தாமரைப் பூவில்)

She dwells in the white- petalled lotus;

And in the sweet 

strains of the veena strings

Resides in the hearts of poets 

whose lofty verses lend

limitless joy and profound pleasure.

Remains as the shining radiance of the vedic chants that probe and perceive the reality

And is the essence of the gracious utterances of blemishless sages.

வெள்ளைத் தாமரைப் பூவில் இருப்பாள்,

     வீணை செய்யும் ஒலியில் இருப்பாள்;

கொள்ளை யின்பம் குலவு கவிதை

     கூறு பாவலர் உள்ளத் திருப்பாள்;

உள்ள தாம்பொருள் தேடி யுணர்ந்தே

     ஓதும் வேதத்தின் உள்நின் றொளிர்வாள்;

கள்ள முற்ற முனிவர்கள் கூறும்

     கருணை வாசக்த் துட்பொரு ளாவாள்.

 (மன்னும் இமய மலை எங்கள்மலையே)

The eternal Himalaya is our very own asset.

There's nothing else to equal it as yet !

The sweetly nourishing Ganges flows here dancing.

Is there a river on earth so entrancing ?

The expository Upanishads  are our prized  treasure

The entire world doesn't have any work of that measure.

Oh,the Golden Bharath is verily our own land

Hail our land,we are of a matchless brand!!!

மன்னும் இமயமலை எங்கள் மலையே; 

     மாநில மீதது போல்பிறி திலையே! 

இன்னறு நீர்க்கங்கை யாறெங்கள் யாறே;

பன்னரும் உபநிட நூலெங்கள் நூலே; 

     பார்மிசை யேதொரு நூலிது போலே! 

பொன்னொளிர் பாரத நாடெங்கள் நாடே; 

      போற்றுவ மிஃதை யெமக்கிலை யீடே!

(எந்தையும் தாயும் மகிழ்ந்து குலாவி)

This is the land  my father and mother

rejoiced and lived happily together

This is the land their ancestors lived for thousands of years before departing

This is the land a thousand ideas bloomed in their minds  spreading glory and greatness

Shall I not eulogise it, nurture in my heart and sing paeans of praise

Shall I not  worship it  uttering,

"Hail thee Oh, Mother! ,  Hail thee Oh, Mother!"

எந்தையும் தாயும் மகிழ்ந்து குலாவி

     இருந்ததும் இந்நாடே-அதன்

முந்தையர் ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் வாழ்ந்து

     முடிந்ததும் இந்நாடே-அவர்

சிந்தையில் ஆயிரம் எண்ணம் வளர்ந்து

     சிறந்ததும் இந்நாடே-இதை

வந்தனை கூறி மனதில் இருத்தி, என்

     வாயுற வாழ்த்தேனோ-இதை

வந்தே மாதரம், வந்தே மாதரம்

             என்று வணங்கேனோ?

You are light;

You are flame;

You are explication;

You are that which is seen.

Lightning,

Ruby,

Ember,

Blazing fire --

these are your

manifestations.

Eye is your abode.

Fame and valour

are your

feats.

Knowledge is your

mark.

You are the mark of

Knowledge.

You scorch --

                        We hail you!

You show -- 

                       We hail you!

You sustain life;

You cherish the body;

You nourish;

Make them perish;

You bring water;

Make the wind blow--

                                       We hail you!

நீ ஒளி, நீ சுடர், நீ விளக்கம், நீ காட்சி,

மின்னல், இரத்தினம், கனல், தீக்கொழுந்து 

இவை யெல்லாம் நினது நிகழ்ச்சி.

கண் நினது வீடு.

புகழ், வீரம் – இவை நினது லீலை.

அறிவு நின் குறி; அறிவின் குறி நீ.

நீ சுடுகின்றாய், வாழ்க நீ காட்டுகின்றாய்,

வாழ்க .

உயிர் தருகின்றாய், உடல் தருகின்றாய்

வளர்க்கின்றாய், மாய்க்கின்றாய்,

நீர் தருகின்றாய், காற்றை வீசுகின்றாய், வாழ்க!

அதன் முத்தையர் என்கிறார். அவர்களின் முத்தையர் என்று கூறவில்லை. எனவே நாட்டையே அது குறிக்கும். நாட்டுக்கு முந்தையராகப் பலா நாடுகள் முன் இருந்து மறைந்ததை அது குறிக்கிறது
