A friend of mine made a request thus: 

Dear Mr Subbaraman,

Can you attempt a poetic English translation of this?This will be 
useful for children of people living abroad not being able to read or 
write Tamil.
This will help them to read every day.

Here is the translation.dedicated to my departed life partner Smt. Renuka Subbaraman who normally enjoys my writing. I do believe she will continue from her heavenly abode .

                                Read SUNDARAKANDAM in five minutes!

 

Those who chant SUNDARAKANDAM will be blessed with all prosperity and peace.  All ill-effects of planets will be warded off. Whatever they would like to achieve, they will see their fulfillment. They will develop hope, confidence and faith in life. They will be rid of all deceases. All good things will accrue to all those who chant this Sundarakanda keeping the images of Lord Rama and his disciple Hanuman in their mind as they chant.

 

 Sundarakanda is the name of this write

Its chant leads to the heaven that gives joy, right!

“Saw Sita” said to Lord Rama in distress

Greatness of Hanuman quite in nice fitness!

Son of Anjana to cross the ocean vast

Gets ready, with blessings of all to fly fast!

With love Angatha and Jambavan see off

All his true soldiers in prayer, none to scoff!

Gods and demons, lords and bards from the heaven

Stand to shower flowers, in baskets eleven!                                                (10)

 Sevalik hills hosting Hanuman the great

Happily Anjaneya gave mainagan a treat

(Minaghan,-son of Menai-lady of Himalaya)

Conquering Surasai, defeating evil

Hanuman with wit and will reached Lanka well!

Lady of Lanka for intemperate talk

 Vayuputhra punished and then went on walk!

Here and there in the lovely Lanka in search

Of Sita under arrest by King and fetch!

Saw his Goddess Sita ill under a tree                                                           (20)       

In deep meditation sure to return free!

He, distressed deep, to the horror of demons  

  To the wrath of Ravana, with a lemon

 To greet Sita descended Hanuman!

Displayed Rama’s ring, and got her ring in turn

Seeing tears in her eyes, with a mind to burn

The wicked king and his kingdom, Hanuman

 Razed to the ground that nasty ashokavan!

Vanquished the devils and devils- the people!

Hanuman equipped with brahmastra- scruple                                            (30)

Chanted the name of his Lord Rama with pride

Lankeswara –his wrath unable to hide --

 Ordered men to set fire to Hanuman’s tail

With the fire in his tail, jumped here and there till

The entire Lanka and Ravana’s ego were burnt

Ravana had a few lessons to be learnt!

Taking Sita’s leave, Hanuman left

Flew over the sky and reached his Lord alert!

Joy in his face and great anguish in Lord’s face

With respect kneeled and said ”Saw Sita”with grace!                                   (40)

“Master of words” Anjaneya detailed nice

The happenings in Lanka sans any spice!

As proof, gave the ring given by his Goddess

Delighted Rama embraced Hanuman, yes!

Prepared for Lanka to get Vaidhehi released

Laying the bridge across the sea, very pleased

Lakshmana and Hanuman with their forces

Crushed Ravana and his men into pieces!

Success of good over evil, Dharma won

Returned to Ayodhya and ruled the heaven!                                                  (50)

Who surrender to Rama receive blessings

Wherever “Ram” is chanted with devotion

Hanuman is seen- hands folded with passion

With tearful eyes steeped in bliss, peace and poise

Ever our obeisance to thee   till we cease!                                                     (55)
