Kurukh language - Northern Dravidian

As many SV members may know, the Dravidian languages are broadly grouped into three subfamilies.

Kurukh is one of the northern Dravidian languages spoken in eastern India. (Brahui is another language in that family - and it is spoken in some parts of current Pakistan).

Out of curiosity, I was flipping through a book detailing Kurukh grammar and came across an interesting thing in the pronouns - on page 37-38 of the book:

Pronouns for humans are very similar to Tamil.

Tamil used to have three demonstrative pronouns - அ, இ, உ.

But the modern tamil has only அ, இ - and has lost the உ.

The Kurukh language seems to have preserved all three!

Nice to know that Kurukh still preserves the pronoun ‘உ’.

Reminds me of a Thiruvaimozhi verse that begins like this:

‘நாம் அவன் இவன் உவன், அவள் இவள் உவள் எவள்'
