There's a special saturday swing dance in ABQ this weekend -- see below for details.  Also, the August monthly Oddfellows dance will feature the Pleasure Pilots once again.  Details coming soon...
 
Friday 7/24: Albuquerque Blues Dance (now weekly!)
Lloyd Shaw Dance Center, 5506 Coal Ave SE
Dance 8:30-11:30pm, $3
Sweete is running the ABQ blues dance on the alternating Fridays, while Juke is on hiatus in Santa Fe for the summer.

     
Saturday 7/25: Special Swing Dance! (ABQ)

This Saturday we're cancelling our dance because we've all been asked by Desi (the guy who runs Tuesday night) to come dance at Civic Plaza for Summerfest. Sha na na is playing, and there are going to be dance contests for Jitterbug, Lindy Hop, and for youth. Several hundred dollars will be given out as cash prizes for the contests. Also, they want some people to dance on 'American Bandstand' style stages (the kind that go-go girls used to dance on). This is a great way to support the swing dance community, and to dance to a live band! The best part of this is that it's FREE!

Here are the details from Desi:
- Dance Contests - from 8:15 to 9:00 PM
- Jitterbug, Lindy, and youth will each have their own set of prizes (several hundred dollars worth) from the City.
- 'On Stage' Dancing - from 9:00 to 10:30 PM (While Sha Na Na is playing)
- There are two 'American Bandstand' style stages (about 10' by 10') elevated above crowd... that the city wants people to dance on.
- Again, the more dedicated lindy hoppers the better (dressed up would be nice as well)
- There will be several thousand folks there (according to the city).
- Everyone who comes will get free parking in the parking lot just north of Civic Plaza if they say they're from the Calming Four Primordial Swing Group.

   
Sunday 7/26: Beginner and Int. Progressive Swing classes with Mike Garcia!
4-week progressive classes, basic and intermediate swing classes.  These start the first Sunday of each month.
6 - 7pm: Beginner swing (jitterbug, charleston, etc).  4 sundays for $48.
7 - 8pm: Intermediate swing / lindy hop.  4 sundays for $48

Monday 7/27: Monday Night Swing
Oddfellows Hall: $8 lesson & dance ($5 for students) / $3 dance only
This is a great place to bring new people to take Mike's drop-in beginner swing class.  The beginner lesson is from 7-8pm, with the dance from 8-10pm.
