Santa Fe JIN News for November 2009:

Konnichiwa Members!

We had a large turnout for our general meeting in October. The DVD of
last year's Matsuri created by Koh Iwagami was a great hit, and a
movie and pizza was enjoyed by all.
Most of the 2010 Matsuri committee chair positions are filled:
Silent Auction: Catherine Weser
Entertainment: Shizuko Kobayashi and Jon Whitsell
Decorations and MC: Iku Fujimatsu
Food: Keiko Murase, DJ Tamura, and Yukari Kuma
Booths: Michael Smith
School Projects: Iba Fukuda
Front and Survey: Arthur Goetz
Volunteer Coordinator: Mel Takaka
Raffle: Rose Himrod
Printing and Advertising: Shizuko Kobayashi, Tom and Rose Himrod
Workshops: Matthew Schauer will do origami
Poster and Flyer design: Catherine Weser and Iku Fujimatsu
Santa Fe JIN Booth: Maggie Phoenix
Signs: Jodie Erickson

We still need a co-chair for the raffle committee.
There a lots of other ways to volunteer, and some people have already
signed up for other jobs. Thank you all, and lets keep on
volunteering.

Member this year's theme is the Samurai, and we have lots of great
entertainment coming!


UPCOMING EVENTS:

NOVEMBER 7, SATURDAY 10 am is a cooking class at Shizuko’s house. She
will teach the traditional cooking of okonomiyaki, a Japanese main
dish pancake. This class will cost $10, which will cover the cost of
the food you will enjoy eating in the class. Please email Shizuko:
shi...@santafejapan.com as soon as possible to confirm your
attendance as space is limited.

NOVEMBER 7, SATURDAY 6 pm A Tsuyama Robot (Robotcon) Project
at Warehouse 21
‘Little Japan’ - A cultural exchange with our Sister City in Tsuyama,
Japan
There will be a robot competition that will take place and other
Japan-related activities including Japanese food (sushi and tea,
Pocky,
Ramune and can coffee), a table for origami in New Mexico colors to
take
to Hiroshima next May, tables from various local groups (schools and
JIN hopefully) selling kawaii mono and other things. Monte del Sol
students will make a movie/slide show of Japan and Tsuyama that will
be projected, and will feature Japanese music (J-pop and hip hop).
Smoking Bachi will start our event.
Warehouse will help kids to make t-shirts for the event. After the
robots we will have at least one computer dedicated to an open Skype
connection, so people from Japan could sit and talk with people in
Santa
Fe.

NOVEMBER 15, SUNDAY 4 pm is a general meeting at Shizuko’s house,
potluck, and planning for the 2010 Matsuri March 13, 2010.

NOVEMBER 17, TUESDAY 6:30 pm Shohko Café will be hosting its sixth
Five-Course Sake Pairing Dinner During the dinner, Ayame Fukuda will
give a small presentation before each course, providing tasting tips
and pertinent facts. Cost is $100/person including tax and gratuity.
Space is limited, so please call 982-9708 to register.

NOVEMBER 24, TUESDAY, Board Meeting

DECEMBER 6, SUNDAY General Meeting, time and place TBA

JANUARY 10, SUNDAY is our New Year Celebration held at the Tutorial
School. More information to come.
