Hey all you SC Geeks!
I am a local geek who has been quite on the boards for the last couple of years, but I still try to keep up with the local happenings. ("Long time listener, first time caller", or something like that)
Anywho, I recently started working at Plantronics as the "Web Community Manager" for their newly launched "Plantronics Developer Connection" (
http://developer.plantronics.com). We are trying to build a developer community around the Plantronics Spokes SDK and I thought I would spam, er, I mean "reach out" to y'all and give you a head's up about what we have going on. :-)
Plantronics has had their "Spokes SDK" for a couple of years, and is now looking to get developers involved who want to build cool stuff using the Plantronics SDK. While this does not really sound too exciting at first glance, I am here to tell you it is actually very cool! Why? Well, recently Plantronics has released the latest version of the Voyager Pro UC that has sensors built into the headset. These sensors can detect when a user has taken on or off the headset as well as detecting when a user has walked away from their computer. By using the SDK, you can now get access to these headset events to enhance your product or service. Why is this so cool? Well, it is a bit hard to explain, so I will point you to a recent video created by Sococo that shows how the Plantronics SDK enhances Sococo's product. (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT00cKYCUAY) As you can see in the video, Sococo taps into both the ability for the headset to detect if it is on or off the user's head, as well as detect if the user has stepped away from their computer (demo of this starts at 1:35).
Ok, now what?
Well, Plantronics is really looking for developers to build cool apps/services that take advantage of the SDK and build something nifty. Since I know there are at least a *couple* of devs on this group, I thought I would send you this message and ask you to check out our site at
http://developer.plantronics.com :-)
But wait, there's more!
We really want to get these Voyager Pro UC headsets into the hands of developers, so I am going to go out on a limb a bit and say if you build something using our SDK, I will get you a FREE Voyager Pro UC headset! What do you need to build? Um, whatever you want really. However, to make it easy, we do have a "step by step" directions on "How to get your Voyager Pro to Tweet". You can find the link here:
http://developer.plantronics.com/blogs/Cary/2012/05/06/how-to-get-your-headset-a-tweeting Honestly, if you were to build that, I would be more than happy to get you a headset. Seriously. To find all our technical SDK info ( with more "how-to" posts) visit the Devzone at this link:
http://developer.plantronics.com/community/devzone/
In conclusion, I just really wanted to give everyone a head's up that Plantronics has launched the Plantronics Developer Connection, as I figured this would be of interest, (considering Plantronics is in Santa Cruz and all). Also, I thought you would be interested as there is quite a lot of opportunity for you to tap into this new Plantronics program and make your mark... As all you know, "the early bird gets the worm", so well, yeah, here's the worm. :-)
Feel free to ping me at my work email...
greg...@plantronics.com if you want more info about the whole FREE headset thing.
Also, feel free to comment back to the list in true SC Geek style, (or not, lol!)
Thanks for your time and peace out!
