Howdy Geeks,

Wow we have new geeks galore. There's been a rush the past few weeks.
Intros for the seven new/returning folks below. Welcome George, Scott,
Robert, JD, Emily, Chris and Tim!

There *is* a geek dinner coming up in September -- the date is up in
the air but look for an announcement in the next week.

Cheers, Margaret

George Shackelford
Got a doctorate in Bioinformatics at UCSC recently, and have set up my
own lab with Linux on a few home-built machines. I find that I can get
my big jobs done on my Amazon EC2 account (doesn't everyone have an
EC2 account?). Other than that I like to hack my Android phone for
fun. Santa Cruz is awesome. It's the people here that make great.
Dance, touch, whatever.

Scott Le Grand
Previous member that wondered why there seemingly weren't any more
geek dinners... Now I see... What makes me geeky? GPUs... Lots and
lots of GPUs... What do I love about Santa Cruz? The ocean...

Robert Munn
I like to understand how things work, and I like to turn ideas into
real things, especially software. That's the heart of my geekiness. I
love the ocean and surf in Santa Cruz, the laid back, creative
atmosphere, and the small town feel.

J.D.
Hi! My wife is a grad student at Santa Cruz so I'm in town a lot. :)
Hmm... I'm geeky because I like to program simple systems that make
people's lives happier. And, what I love most about Santa Cruz is the
beach and the laid-back-with-head-on-shoulders attitude!

Emily Cohan
I love the sun in santa cruz and I'm not really sure what makes me
geeky... trekky? plays bridge? rides a motorcycle? I don't think
riding a motorcycle is typically geeky - but I know many geeks who
ride. :) Looking forward to joining the group - thanks!

Chris Stallard
Network Engineer that recently moved to Aptos and wanted to meet
others in the area.

Tim Thompson
I build tech-laden artistic instruments (musical and visual) and
installations, often for Burning Man, and participate in various Santa
Cruz events like the Glow festival and Live Looping festival.
