Mike Kane update

Update:

I visited Mike today, and what a wonderful change from Monday! He was
playing some kind of board game with some other patients and nurses
when I walked in. I was wearing a lab coat, so I didn't expect him to
recognize me. His sister had recognized me right away, god bless her,
and when Mike saw me, he interrupted the game, saying, "Guys, I want
you all to meet my good friend Nick."

I won't go into the details of what we talked about, but I am damned
impressed at the progress he has made. On Monday I was surprised that
he recognized me; today, he was back to his old self, teasing me and
such.

I told him that, given the shit he has already been dealt and has
dealt with, he is one of the strongest persons I know, and let him
know that i have faith that he will be back with a vengeance.

He is gonna be there for some time yet, in rehab, but he knows he is
gonna be out of there eventually.

And, fwiw, he has no complaints, although I am not going to let him
suffer the hospital food if I can help it. Heh. There is much to be
said about having an insider when you are a hospital patient.
