                                       Evie Ladin Band
Traditional and Original Songs & Rhythmic Dance

“A truly original sound in new old-time Americana,” -fRoots

Tenacious, innovative string musicians, the Evie Ladin Band – Evie Ladin, Keith Terry and
Erik Pearson – throw down captivating, truly entertaining live shows. Grounded in Appalachian
old-time repertoire, seasoned in African-diaspora roots, writing from life in modern cities,
blurring the lines between music and dance, the polyrhythmic heat of Evie’s clawhammer banjo,
resonant voice, real stories and rhythmic dance have been heard from A Prairie Home Companion
to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Their performance experience is a stand-out.

Following up on two 2019 releases – their fourth of adventurous originals Caught On A Wire
and Evie’s first totally trad fiddle/banjo duets Riding the Rooster – the band released an EP of
funky covers Playing our Hand in 2020.

Evie Ladin: vocals, banjo, percussive dance
Evie was born and raised on Southern music, from inner city Baltimore to Oakland, and
has taken home ribbons in folk song from Mt Airy, NC Fiddler’s Convention, and Neo-Trad
Band from the Appalachian Stringband Festival, Clifftop, WV.
“She can write, she can sing, and she pulls back from the saccharine brink
with wit – a sharp intelligence,”    -Grant Alden, No Depression

Keith Terry: bass, body music, vocals
Keith is a renowned percussionist/rhythm dancer, and the founder of the International Body
Music Festival. A pioneer in contemporary Body Music, Keith produces large-scale intercultural
collaborations and education. Keith brings a cinematic ear to playing bass as tonal percussion,
with bells, box, body and toys.

Erik Pearson: guitar, banjo, vocals
Erik is a musician’s musician with the Crooked Jades, storyteller Diane Ferlatte, and his solo
projects. His original banjo tune “Fork & File” was the soundtrack for a rapids rafting scene in
Sean Penn’s movie Into the Wild.

                           Sunday, Sep 26  3:00 PM

Free Dive has been performing and recording together since 2003.  All the band members
contribute original compositions and collaborate on arrangements.  The groove-based quintet
features Jeff Cressman (trombone), Bryan Dyer (vocals), Cecilia Engelhart (vocals, percussion),
Steve Hogan (bass, beatboxing) and Keith Terry (drums, body music).  The absence of a
chordal instrument gives Free Dive their fresh sound — open, transparent, cinematic, evocative.

Because of the broad musical backgrounds of all the band members, Free Dive explores many
different musical styles including Jazz, popular song and Latin American- and African-influenced
music, and incorporates and encourages improvisation.

Keith Terry: drums, body music

four decades. Keith has performed with a wide range of artists including Charles “Honi” Coles,
Jazz Tap Ensemble,Turtle Island Quartet, Jovino Santos Neto, Pickle Family Circus, Barbatuques,
Kenny Endo, Freddie Hubbard, Tex Williams, Robin Williams, and Bobby McFerrin. As a producer
he has released more than a dozen CDs, DVDs, and books on Crosspulse Media. He is the
founding Artistic Director of the International Body Music Festival (IBMF), launched in 2008;
and the Founding Director of Crosspulse, an Oakland, CA –based, non-profit organization
dedicated to the creation and performance of rhythm-based intercultural music and dance,
celebrating its 42nd year.     www.crosspulse.com

Jeff Cressman: trombone
Jeff Cressman is a native of the Bay Area and has been happily dispersing his musical offerings
by working for many musical personalities. Carlos Santana, Pete Escovedo, Peter Apfelbaum,
John Santos and many others have utilized Jeff’s willingness to blow into some brass tubing
(often with favorable results).

Bryan Dyer: vocals
Bryan Dyer is a musician with more than 30 years of professional experience. He’s a versatile
multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who performs many styles of music from classical and avant garde
to rock, jazz, and blues. Music has taken Bryan around the world to perform in many countries
including Japan, Switzerland, Indonesia, and Jamaica, and alongside such artists as Huey Lewis
and The News, Michael McDonald, and Bobby McFerrin. Some of the other groups he currently
performs with include SoVoSo, Chelle's Juke Joint, The Funk Revival Orchestra, Chelle! & Friends,
and Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir.

Cecilia Engelhart: vocals
Cecilia Engelhart is a vocalist, composer, arranger and percussionist. She loves music of all kinds
and works in diverse settings with other vocalists, instrumentalists and dancers. She teaches voice
at UC Berkeley and The California Jazz Conservatory.

Steve Hogan: bass, beatboxing
Bay Area native Steve Hogan credits his travels around the world, studying with master musicians
from many cultures, in informing his unique style and approach to music making. He currently spends
his time backing up a variety of Bay Area artists and is the bassist for "The Hogan Brothers", a jazz
fusion trio with his two brothers.

                                       Alisa Amador
                           Thursday, Jun 23  7:00 PM

“Alisa Amador is a pitch-perfect rendition of my wildest dreams”
                                                 - Cyrena Touros, NPR All Songs Considered

Winner of the 2022 NPR Tiny Desk Contest, Alisa Amador’s music is a synthesis
of the many styles she’s voraciously absorbed: rock, jazz, funk and alternative folk,
all wrapped in the spirit of the Latin music she grew up with.  Alisa began performing
as a backup singer for her parents’ (Brian & Rosi Amador) Latin folk band Sol y Canto
at age five, and has appeared with them in our house concerts series.  Now, pursuing
a career as a solo performer, her soulful singing, poetically incisive lyrics, and
syncopated rhythms are likely to make you cry, laugh, and dance all within one set.

Alisa released her debut EP, Narratives, in 2021: a six-song snapshot in time.
It’s a deep look at a person stumbling through life in two languages, English and Spanish,
and in many states of mind about it all. Alisa’s crystal-clear vocals are so effortless
throughout Narratives that it’s almost easy to forget how technically talented she is,
until she moves from almost-spoken-word territory to a powerful chorus without hesitation
or illustrates a repetitive refrain that’s so affecting it feels like you might want to live inside it
for a little while.

“The word ‘narratives’ encompasses not only the existing cultural messages that hurt people
individually and collectively,” she says, “but also the revolutionary power of writing ourselves
new narratives; rejecting a culture of fear; and catalyzing a culture of honesty, bravery and
self-love in the process.”

“Shawn Colvin meets Joni Mitchell has lunch with Amy Winehouse meets
Suzanne Vega add Diana Krall in a quiet, unassuming, never loud package,
even singing in Spanish and French."           - Vance Gilbert, singer/songwriter
