We've been making tons of progress on the Zócalo Arts dance/music/community center, and we're targeting an opening date in the fall!  But there's lots of work still to be done, and we welcome volunteers to help out....starting with a couple of work parties this weekend!

We're getting ready to paint the interior wainscoting and trim: a lot of sanding has been done, but we need to finish sanding and prep.  If there are enough people, we have a few other simple jobs to do.  We're also looking for a couple of people with carpentry skills to rebuild the exterior side gates.

Work Party dates:
    Saturday June 22  10am-3pm
    Sunday     June 23  10am-5pm

708 Washington St, Santa Cruz (note: Washington St is 24/7 permit-only parking. Park on Lincoln, Chestnut, or downtown, or see me for a temporary parking pass).

If you can make it at all this weekend, please drop me a line to tell me when you can come, so i can plan for snacks.

You can fill in this form to let us know when you can help with upcoming work parties, including laying the maple dance floor, which will take several days and require lots of people to help (skilled and unskilled).  There are also a couple of projects that you can work on at home....ask me about them.

Zócalo Arts is operated by the Zócalo Traditional Arts Guild, under the auspices of Instant Harmony, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

A bit about the space: Built in 1884 and operated as a German Methodist Episcopal Church though 1925, the building then housed the Salvation Army, a dance studio in the 1980s, Santa Cruz Aikido in the 1990s (which then moved to Mission St), and the TriYoga Center for 24 years until early 2020.  We purchased the property in November 2023.
