The first sentence on this page is "... z, S, and s and Hard or Surd"

* 'and Hard' is not correct. She probably means 'are Hard'
* she uses a word 'Surd' which I have never heard before.

Surd is demonstrated in this book - http://www.archive.org/details/sanskritprimerba00perruoft

on p.1 - the very first consonant in each row is Surd. The one after
it is Surd asp. ... probably short for aspirated.
