Dear friends,

I had earlier intimated about the  HDICT dictionary reader app for Apple App Store users. Now it is available for Android users and Linux computers.

Google Play Store : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.sanskritworld.hdict

Apple App Store: https://apps.apple.com/in/app/hdict/id6759493062

Snap Store (Linux) : https://snapcraft.io/hdict

If you have a bug to report or a feature request, please feel free to open an issue at  https://github.com/drdhaval2785/hdict/issues/new or send an email to drdhav...@gmail.com

New Features:
1. Supports Mdict and Slob file formats, over and above StarDict and Dictd formats.
2. Allows selection of dictionaries based on source and destination language.
3. Allows import of folders containing already downloaded dictioanries.
4. Search as You Type. On the fly results.
5. Suggestions for headwords based on your typed letters.
6. List Mode to just see the headwords matching your query. Accordion expands when you click on it to see definition.
7. Customizable UI.

Awesome app. I use Dadimi android app as well. But this appears to be more feature-rich.

What I liked:
The ability to tap on any word within the meaning to explore it further is a highly useful and well-implemented feature.

What I did not like:
Accessing the search history is not intuitive. There should be a simpler and more convenient way to revisit or repeat previous searches.

Dear Hari,

For using any dictionary, Click on triple bar on the left upper corner. It will open a menu. Click on “Manage Dictionaries”.

“Select by Language” is the easiest. Select the source and destination language e.g. upasargArthachandrikA would be Sanskrit-Sanskrit. Once you select both source and destination language, you can select the dictionaries you want to download.

“Download Web” allows you to paste URL link of your desired dictionary (stardict, dictd, mdict, slob or their archived versions).

“Add Folder” allows you to use your folder where you have stored dictionary files. Note that in Android, you may have to give access to the app to read / write files.

“Add File” - this option is mot available in Android. For other platforms, you can add individual file via this. But “Add Folder” is a reasonable alternative for Android users.
