The idea for a crowd-sourced English-Sanskrit dictionary :–

Priorities for Word Inclusion in the English-Sanskrit Dictionary:

1. Words from Sanskrit Literature: Priority will be given to words that have been historically used in Sanskrit literature in the same sense as they are being proposed for inclusion in the dictionary. Volunteers will research Sanskrit texts, such as the Vedas, Upanishads, Mahabharata, Ramayana, and other classical works, to identify authentic usage and definitions. Tools like Wikisource and sanskritdocuments are useful here.

2. Words Originating from Sanskrit: Emphasis will be placed on words that have originated from Sanskrit and are currently used with different meanings in various Indic languages or other languages. Volunteers will conduct thorough research to trace the etymology and semantic evolution of these words across different linguistic contexts. CSTT dictionaries and other official regional dictionaries can be researched.

3. New Words Using Paninian Grammar: Efforts will be made to create new words in Sanskrit using the principles of Paninian grammar and in accordance with the suitability of the language. Volunteers will apply Paninian grammar rules, morphology, and syntax to coin new words that adhere to the structural integrity and aesthetic beauty of Sanskrit. The Vigraha and its type could be defined.

★ Verification and Review : A team of Sanskrit scholars and linguistic experts will review and verify the proposed word entries to ensure accuracy, authenticity, and adherence to Paninian grammar principles.

★ Platform:For this We can create a separate page or subdomain on Sanskritkosha.com or kosha.sanskrit.today. Each English word can have a talk page to facilitate collaboration, discussion, and feedback among volunteers and users of the dictionary and an upvoting system. We can use English words from prestigious dictionaries like oxford english dictionary.

Respected Scholars,
Namaste.
I want to share a project which is under development by Samskrit Promotion Foundation. A collaborative platform is being developed.
The objectives are as follows;
1. CSTT dictionaries are available in English-Hindi. These words will be the base for Samskrit Scholars to contribute. (Prof Ganesh from IIT Mumbai is of great help)
2. Technical terms required for NCERT text books are also expected to form part of this data-set
3. Anyone with Vyakarana background can contribute by registering and selecting the subject area.
4. Reviewers will be experts on Samskrit & subject area. (So two types are users- Contributors & Reviewers)
5. We will forward all the newly coined & reviewed words to CSTT & they will take the final call on these new terms.
The platform is almost ready and is under testing. There will be two fields; one for the coined word & other process of coinage/prakriya.
Maybe by the 1st week of March, it will be ready. Regards
Lakshminarasimhan

Namaste. The platform for sanskritkosha.com is not designed to support collaborations / user-notes / discussions etc. We don't use any database and we don't have any mechanism to store user-data. There are no plans to change that architecture.

I believe the problem you are trying to solve can be dealt with Google sheets or bulletin boards like phpBB. There might be other softwares as well.

Having said that, once your dictionary is ready, I can definitely make it available from sanskritkosha.com, that should not be a concern at all.

Re. the Raghuvira kosha, a few scholars from Samskrita Bharati had approached me with an initial dataset. I have given them my suggestions. Once the data gets cleaned up, I will make it available for everyone on sanskritkosha.com.

Best,
Neelesh

धन्यवादः to everyone for suggestions.
Waiting for the reply of Neelesh Bodas Mahodaya. As the best approach would be to start it on Sanskritkosha.com for maximum reach and impact.

Dear Sir

Congratulations on a long-awaited and much needed project!

May I suggest the following in addition to the points you have listed . . .

1. You need to refer to scientific works in Sanskrit in math, chemistry etc in addition to what you have mentioned. Kindly digitize the great dictionary of Acharya Raghuvira. In this dictionary (Eng-Hindi) every word is of Sanskrit origin. This will be of immense use to your team. The compiler has used technical words already existing in Sanskrit across many shastras including chemistry, math etc.

2. Please think of ease of usage and naturalness-while-speaking while deciding on inclusion of  a new word.

regards
