कारणैः सदृशं कार्यम् इति मिथ्या प्रसिद्धयः ।
मानिनो भवतो जातं यदमानं यशो भुवि ॥
kāraṇaiḥ sadṛśaṃ kāryam iti mithyā prasiddhayaḥ |
mānino bhavato jātaṃ yadamānaṃ yaśo bhuvi ||
“The result is in consonance with the cause” - this well-known dictum, me thinks, is false, for, (Oh King), from your māna (‘limited measure’, also self-respect) the fame that has resulted on this earth is a-māna (unlimited).
