कर्माणि बध्नन्ति शुभाशुभानि कर्तारमौपाधिकमेव जीवम् ।

परं न तत्साक्षिणमस्तदोषम् आभीरमद्यात् किमजे शयाने ॥

karmāṇi badhnanti śubhāśubhāni kartāramaupādhikameva jīvam |

paraṃ na tatsākṣiṇamastadoṣam ābhīramadyāt kimaje śayāne ||

Actions good or bad are binding on the conditional Jīva only as the doer of actions ; they have no effect on the witness (Ātman) which is free from all defects. When the goat is lying, in front, is the shepherd (killed and) eaten ?
