कालातिक्रमणं कुरुष्व तडितां विस्फूर्जितैस्त्रासय

स्फारेर्भीषय गर्जितैरतितरां कार्ष्ण्यं मुखे दर्शय ।

यस्यानन्यगतेः पयोद मनसो जिंज्ञासया चातक-

स्याधेहि त्वमिहाखिलं तदपि न त्वत्तः परं याचते ॥

kālātikramaṇaṃ kuruṣva taḍitāṃ visphūrjitaistrāsaya
sphārerbhīṣaya garjitairatitarāṃ kārṣṇyaṃ mukhe darśaya |
yasyānanyagateḥ payoda manaso jiṃjñāsayā cātaka-
syādhehi tvamihākhilaṃ tadapi na tvattaḥ paraṃ yācate ||

You may cause delay, frighten by lightening, threaten with thunder and show excessive blackness on your face ; you may do, O cloud, all these things to test (the constancy of) the mind of cātaka bird which has no other succour than you ; but you will see that it would beg (for water) of nobody other than you.
