The purpose of this course is to provide the students with solid foundations in the basic concepts of programming: data structures and algorithms. The main objective of the course is to teach students about structures and algorithms which allow them to write programs which can efficiently manipulate, store, and retrieve data.
C Programming and Data Structures is designed to meet the requirements of undergraduate students of India. This book offers a fully updated, comprehensive survey of computer science theory and the C programming language. A highly visual approach has been used to explain fundamental programming concepts. Detailed discussions on several important topics pertaining to C programming have been included in the book, such as functions, arrays, pointers, strings, structures and unions, dynamic memory allocation functions, applications of programming in C, and many more. Each topic has been supplemented with an illustrative program to aid in faster and effective understanding for the students. The chapters include useful pedagogical features such as chapter objectives, solved examples, tables and illustrations, and end-of-chapter exercises including review questions, practice sets, problems and projects. In addition, the chapters incorporate a list of common programming errors that programmers are most prone to make during programming.
Richard F. Gilberg is a retired Professor of Computer Science from DeAnza College where his classes were primarily in computer programming, data structures, and web site development. Prior to joining DeAnza College, Mr. Gilberg worked for a large aerospace company as a programmer, analyst, and manager. He has co-authored six computer science textbooks with Mr. Forouzan.
The required book should be the only data structure book you need for thiscourse. There are, however, a few other good books that use C language asa basis for data structures. Here is the list of books (with references to someinformation about each) that we consider better or closer to this course than others.Check if you want advanced knowledge on data structures. Some of these bookscould be found in Pitt or CMU library, but they have not been reserved for thiscourse.
