I appreciate your assistance and the steps you provided. I followed all the instructions mentioned in your previous message, including unpairing and attempting to pair the remote again. However, I'm still encountering the same issue. The message "Pairing remote bring it closer to your Apple TV to continue pairing" continues to appear on the screen. Is there any further guidance you can provide to help resolve this pairing problem? Thank you for your support.

same issue very frustrating. i finally went to apple tv / settings / remotes & devices / volume control. it was defaulted to HDMI for some reason but when i changed to Auto the TV volume worked again. good luck.

How To Pair (Or Re-Pair) An Apple Remote With An Apple TV

We pair all our remotes to our apple products. Our paired remote for our 2nd Generation apple TV was lost, so we bought a new one. How do I pair the new remote, when the Apple TV won't even turn on because our new remote isn't paired with it..? When I press any button on the new remote I only get a double light flash signalling that the remote isn't paired with that product.

Lost my original remote and I tried the Menu and right click for six seconds with new purchased remote and still get flashing light on ATV. my home screen on tv shows as apple tv update available. tried to power off and on and electrical input to ATV, still no luck.

Hi acrplo23. Those posts apply to the silver remote used with Apple TV 2 and 3. Left and Right refer to the navigation arrow buttons. If you have Apple TV 4 (small black remote), it works differently. There's some info on this page, link: Get help with the remote for your Apple TV - Apple Support. You need to scroll down past the silver remote.

Actually, with the new ApplyTV you hold down the Menu button and press the LEFT button. Then you will see a remote icon on the top left of the screen with two flashing beams. I know because I did it last night.

I found a resolution for this issue. Apparently the device can unregister itself without notice and needs to be re-registered. Here is a link to the Samsung page where you find instructions on how to re-register the remote. Once I did this, my remote worked with the Apple TV again. Finally. Hope this helps those having issues with using a Samsung remote with your Apple TV.

Has anyone found a resolution for this yet? I am having the same issue. My Samsung TV Remote worked great with my Apple TV until 2 days ago. Nothing changed, it just quit working. I changed batteries, tried to repair, but nothing works.

I've been dealing with this problem for the past month or so, and finally decide TODAY to check the forums for possible solutions, and what do I find? You posting a solution to this extremely frustrating problem just YESTERDAY.

I couldn't get it connected at all and this worked for me, maybe it was a new setting on the tv. Under the tv settings go to Connection-->External Device Manager-->Input Signal Plus-->Turn off whatever HDMI port your Apple TV is connected to.

Regrettably this solution did not work for me. Called Samsung, and the guy told me my (brand New) TV would not work with the AppleTV box - despite it working bofore. This seems like call-centre BS, because it already worked for a bit. How to solve this???

I have a solution that worked for me after MANY hours of struggle. You have to reset your Apple TV entirely, back to factory settings. Then when you first connect via HDMI to Samsung, you have to try not to set it up. Just connect it and it will hopefully recognize and work. I do have HDMI CEC active and input signal plus selected for the port but not sure if that makes a difference. The real difference was working on the Apple TV device and leaving Samsung alone. Resetting does make you have to log in to all your apps again, but to get the Samsung remote to work with ATV was worth it. Good luck!

Had the same problem this morning. So I unplugged my Apple TV 4K third generation and left it unplugged for five minutes when I plugged it back in and turned on my Samsung Q90 C and the Apple TV 4K box, everything worked. I can now control my Apple TV with my Samsung smart remote once again. Not sure what the problem is or what causes it but that certainly fixed it for me..

The apple TV remote app on my apple watch was paired and functional before the last Watch OS update to 8.1. Now it is unpaired and I can no longer pair it with Apple TV. It doesn't appear under remote apps and devices on the TV. I have apple TV 4 and the software is up-to-date. They are both connected to the same wifi network. I have restarted both devices. My iphone is still connected to the remote app.

I have the same issue as everyone else. Apple Watch 5 and Apple TV 4K, the watch is not listed in remotes and devices and there is no "add device" option available. Can't seem to connect these two no matter what, and it is a bloody shame. Fix this asap, we pay so much for our devices we deserve the functionality to work!

Thank you for the quick response. Yes, I am following the steps listed to set up the remote. I select Add Device in the remote app and when I open Remote App and Devices on apple TV, it lists my iphone, but not the watch. I have both on the same wifi network and I'm standing within three feet of the apple TV. The code appears on the watch, but not on the TV. It was working just a couple of days ago. I believe it stopped working when I updated to Watch 8.1.

Unfortunately, no. I spent a long time on the phone with support, but they couldn't resolve it. The weird thing is the remote app works just fine on my husband's apple watch 6. It just won't work on my watch 7

Jumping in here so as to add to this fact that this is a common issue; this is happening to me and the missus watch unall (7Series..unsure if that's relevant), we've since lost access to Apple TV with the same fail aspects as listed above.

Having the same issue with my series 7 watch too. Watch remote app shows me a 4 digit code, but the Apple TV says to hold my device close to the Apple TV in order to pair, no place for me to input the watch code and nothing happening :(

I am having this very issue. The watch doesn't seem to appear on my apple tv, when I go to watching now on the watch, it shows what's playing on the Apple tv but it's greyed out and won't accept no touches on the screen of the watch.

Experienced the same issue initially. Received a new Apple Watch (series 7) yesterday and tried to set up the Remote app on the watch to control Apple TV (4th generation). I tried many sproposed olutions (pair/re-pair watch and iphone; delete Remote app from Watch, then re-install; ensure latest software is installed on everything... did not work).

Bring your iPhone close to the Apple TV console. When you see a message on your iOS device that says Pair Apple TV, tap Pair. You will see a code appear on your TV screen - enter that code onto your iPhone.

I just got the iPhone 13 pro which has moved the remote app into the control center. It stopped picking up my Apple TV. I've tried restarting my Apple TV several times and it still won't pick it up. It's a 4th generation. Help!

How are you supposed to "Verify that both devices are on the same home network" when you can't navigate around the Apple TV because you don't have a remote? The solution needs to present something where the Apple TV connects to your iPhone in some other fashion. Very suspicious and like Apple to make us all buy new remotes when we could have used the old app that used to work just fine.

Sounds like Apple is up to another diabolical business ploy where your iPhone gets a new update, resulting in the Apple TV remote moving to the command center (with no ability to use the old Remote app) and not functioning. Apple will wait a few months intentionally to resolve the fix but make money in the meanwhile with all the people buying $60 remote controls.

Note: The Apple solution up top asks you to ensure the Apple TV is on the same WiFi network as your iPhone. But how can you change the WiFi settings of your AppleTV when you don't have a remote!... consumers are getting nickled and dimed here.

1) I was talking in my previous post about the iOS app 'Apple TV Remote'. It seems mostly unusable for my setups where connections are ethernet cable based. The app never fails to show my Apple TVs, but is most of the time unable to connect to the Apple TV it lists. The hints offered such as go closer to the device and make sure both devices are connected to the same WiFi, while my Apple TVs are never on the same WiFi as only cable connected, all this makes simply no sense. So Apple should fix this iOS app for its buggy behavior or start deprecating it.

2) Fortunately with newer iOS there exists an alternative that seems to work reliably: This technique, described here Set up the Apple TV Remote on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support, seems today to be much better supported by Apple and does not require aforementioned iOS app 'Apple TV Remote'. While this seems to work in my experience reliably also with a setup involving ethernet cabling, it also gives misleading information. E.g. in case of some difficulties also this system software consistently refers to the misleading need that both devices would have to be connected to the same WiFi instead of stating the same LAN. Any user using an ethernet cable is invited to disconnect her Apple TV first from a perfectly working ethernet cable and try to use the WiFi, while the actual problem has nothing to do with the fact that an ethernet cable connection is involved.
