Hello Group:

So some of you (Ray for instance), have met Scott Francisco who is now spearheading a project for this coming weekend out on Beach 91st.  Both Scott and I were out there last Saturday, trying to solve a community shower problem.  I am now out of town for an extended period of time, but Scott asked me to connect with this group with this project.  He is looking for a few good volunteers to help him out with this project.

It is dealing with the reclaiming of some of the wood from the Boardwalk if possible (I believe he has been speaking to the NYC Parks people) but also maybe chronicling all 5 miles with photos at specific points along the way.

*** RAY - if you could perhaps be the point person to coordinate any of this with Scott, since you two have met and so that things can remain organized, I think Scott would appreciate that.  Please see Scott's email below along with a flyer he attached.

Thanks.

Michelle

Pilot Projects insiders,

If you are interested in helping in Rockaway, we are going out Sunday morning returning late afternoon.

We will be working on Rockaway boardwalk reclamation. (See attached flyer). This means lifting, sorting and prying nails from pieces of wood, large and small, on the beach. This may transform into another form of relief effort as needs arise.

Transport: I may ride with Cathy McHale who is helping to organize this effort (room for a few more in her car). Or depending on the level or interest I may drive my van from Brooklyn. If you have a car or can organize one even better. There is limited public transport with ferry connection - maybe an option for the most adventurous.

We will be meeting on Beach 91st Street at the Community Garden at 10am (close to the beach). Cell service is mostly available.

Please let me know if you think you can come. I can assure you it is worth the effort just to see and experience the impact of this storm.

Bring/wear:
  • Good shoes/boots
  • Work clothes
  • Water and food
  • Other essentials
  • Gloves if you have (we will have some)
  • Safety glasses (we will have some)
  • Crowbar and hammer (we will have some)
See attached flyer

Michelle,

Tell Scott to give me a ring.

Has he talked with Mike or Tommy since then?

Best,
Ray
