Atthe beginning of the academic year, I pushed out version 15.35 and we lock most software updates during the semester to prevent any additional headaches. I opened Word last week and saw a nice banner at the top telling me to update my Office. I run a script during Office install that sets update checking to Manual and have never seen this banner until recently. I do not see any options in the GUI to not display this update banner. Does anyone know how to disable it?
I added a script that just runs "sudo rm -R /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0/" and that should remove the updater so Office doesn't know it's out-of-date and doesn't prompt you with the banner I initially posted about.
@edullum, You only need MAU installed if you're planning to use it to download and install updates. If you choose to download the update packages yourself and deploy them via Jamf, you don't need MAU installed.
I can see this folder on my Mac, but when I try to send the UNIX command "rm /Library/Application_Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0/Microsoft_AutoUpdate.app" I get a message saying no such file or directory exists. Has anyone else had this issue?
Hey guys, I see this an old post but I have the same problem, Im seeing that theres a code here pbowden-msft/ResetUpdateMessage
But I just know how to turn the mac on hahaha so Im asking the steps so I can do this to remove the Update Advise..
On the other way, when I look at finder I reach library/Microsoft, but then, I cant see MAU2.0 folder, when I open Microsoft folder theres just 2 folders (Office and Teams), now, at the same line than Microsoft, theres other forlders "Microsoft AU Daemon", "Microsoft AutoUpdate" and "Microsoft Update Assistant" but any MAU2.0...
I can confirm that this method works immediately for Office 2016 using macOS High Sierra! I have no plans to purchase a new license from MS when this version works just fine, so it's great to be rid of those nagging update banners.

Though American politics is conducted at the state and congressional district level, polling and analysis are largely done at the national level. We reject that model, and will use state-of-the art techniques in political science and data science to bring layers of nuance and depth to polling.
In addition, political science research has demonstrated that policy-makers don't understand the attitudes of their own constituents. Our first project involves helping reporters, strategists, politicians and commentators understand the geography of public opinion through multi-level regression and post-stratification.
Learning about the political climate is pointless unless we can use that information to bring about change, so we'll be collaboration with social scientists and data scientists to bring the techniques they use every day in the office to advance common sense solutions that improve the lives of all Americans.
Now when I am stoping Office 365 service and starting it again ( after an hour or two )
I don't see an option to chose automatic or manual configuration.
Config is going to Auto Mode in 2 steps and all previews settings are on place.
What I can do now is only re-authenticate apps into my Office 365 tenant and this process if going without errors.
However Check Point Service User is not create again and deployment cannot be completed.
you need to disable 2FA (also geo-location restrictions) for the Check Point user, then it should start to work and you will see events and mails. You can re-authorize the config if needed (see screenshot below):
"After you grant CloudGuard SaaS access permission to Office 365, a new global administration account is created in the Exchange Admin Center. The email address of the account is checkpoint-service-user@[TENANT-NAME].
onmicrosoft.com. This account is referred to as Check Point Service User, which runs PowerShell commands to automatically configure Office 365 to work with CloudGuard SaaS (as outlined in sk144213). If MFA is enabled on this user, the configuration cannot take place."
I had a ChP plugin and Check Point Service User in my Office Tenant however because something was wrong
I delete this user.
Now when I am starting a service and authorize apps again, user is not created again.
I don't see an option to manual setup either ... in short way ... I am stuck
I hope You got a point.
BTW ... instead using conditional access polices You can disable all 2FA ( MS Auth app ) in this section
most likely you need to remove the whole configuration which was done by Harmony Email in O365 tenant, not only the user (Connectors, Mailflow-Rules / Journaling-Rules, Enterprise Apps ...) Afterwards you should be able to re-authorize the connection. Dont use manual mode, as it is a lot more unflexible and you will need to change settings manually each time you change the policy.
As stated by Albero and Phoneboy, just open an SR. You will get an info form TAC what should be removed in the tenant. Maybe they also can just initiate only missing things in the backend to be added.
Hello Igor
Because CheckPoint Service User couldn't login into Office 365 ( 2FA )
he didn't change anything in Connectors, Mailflow-Rules / Journaling-Rules
I removed only Enterprise Apps and ChP Service User from my Office 365
However when I re-authorized the connection form Harmony Portal only Enterprise Apps are recreated again.
( without any problems )
ChP Service User Account is not created again and I am stuck
I hope You got a point.
This is a reason why I was asking about manual mode or starting from scratches, but thanks for advice
I'm hoping someone can help with this scenario. I've recently separated from my company and was not able to delete the Office 365 account tied to the company off my iPhone before the account was locked/deleted. Somehow the Outlook email account was synced to the Mail app (even though I don't recall actively allowing it to do that) so the account now appears as an account in Mail.
I have been able to delete the cache of mail and even remove the account from the Outlook app which has now been removed from the phone. However, the O365 account still shows up in Mail. When I go to Settings > Mail > Accounts and click on the O365 account it does not give me the option to delete the account.
A reminder that I can no longer log into the account as it was managed and deleted by my former company. I'd really like to eradicate any trace of the former company from my personal phone. Has anyone experienced this? Do you have a solution?
If there is not one there, and you don't have the option to remove the account, double check to make sure you have not set restrictions on your phone to prevent account changes as a security measure. You'll need to turn that restriction off in order to remove the account.
If you have not done so, you may end up having to erase your phone and set it up from scratch. I've seen that before when managed devices were not properly take out of the management system prior to removal of the account from the tenant.
We recommend that you uninstall any previous versions of Office before installing Microsoft 365 Apps. Use the Office Deployment Tool and specify the RemoveMSI element in your configuration.xml file to uninstall Office versions that use Windows Installer (MSI).
We recommend that you uninstall any previous versions of Office, including Visio and Project, before installing the newer version. But, in a few cases, such as for application compatibility testing, you might need to keep a previous version installed for a limited time while you transition to the new version.
The product ID is the Setup ID that is found in the Setup.xml file in the product.WW folder of the installation files for your previous version of Office. For example, the Setup.xml file for Office Professional Plus 2010 is found in the ProPlus.WW folder.
