Hi all,

I hope some of you were able to attend GPO’s Digital FDLP meeting last week. If not, the meeting recording/documents/chat log are available at https://www.fdlp.gov/training/ncsa-collaborative-collection-development-meetings. One important note from the meeting: all selective libraries should receive two surveys in the coming days. The first (due 11/30) is intended to gather opinions about ranking criteria for determining where the 50/20 limited quantity print volumes go in the West NCSA, and the second (due 12/22) is to gather each library’s requests for titles they would like to receive. Note that a request does not necessarily mean the library will actually receive the requested titles.

Since I’m currently serving on the Depository Library Council, I’ve heard quite a bit about the transition to a digital FDLP and am happy to chat if anyone is interested in that. I would also love to hear your thoughts about the 50/20 limited quantity titles, especially in regard to which titles you think would be important to have in print format in California. While we’re not guaranteed to receive any specific title, I’m happy to help advocate for titles if folks think they’re critical for local access. My understanding is that GPO is committed to ensuring one Preservation Steward copy of each title in each NCSA, and one copy available for ILL in each NCSA; because Preservation Steward copies may also be available for ILL, that may mean only one copy of certain titles in each NCSA.

As an fyi, UCSD is currently a Preservation Steward for the Journal of the Executive Proceedings of the Senate (one of the 20-copy titles). We are also a Preservation Steward for the House and Senate Journals, which are on the unlimited quantity list and will remain available to all depository libraries.

Best,

Kelly
