Hiren's Boot Cd has last been updated in 2012, and while it works in many cases, at least some of the software it ships with is outdated and may not work properly anymore on newer versions of Windows.

The main distribution, MediCat DVD as a size of 7.5 Gigabytes currently. The naked variant a size of 5.05 GB, the Windows 10 x64 distribution one of 3.94 GB, and the naked Windows 10 distribution one of 1.47 Gigabyte.

Downloads are provided as multiple archive files. You need to extract the files once you have downloaded them all using 7-Zip or a compatible archiving program. This places an ISO image on your disk that you can burn, copy to USB to create a bootable USB drive, or boot using a virtual environment.

The main menu displays various options to you. You can start one of the bootable operating systems included with the distribution, or access diagnostic, repair and troubleshooting tools instead that MediCat ships with.

You get to access all sorts of programs right there, and even more if you are using a version of the toolkit that came with PortableApps included. This include many tools that help you troubleshoot issues on a PC; to name a few: EaseUS Partition Master, HDDExpert, NTFS Permissions Tool, backup tools, Dead Pixel tester, CPU-Z, RegAlyzer, Dr.Web CureIt, Kaspersky TDSSKiller, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Autoruns.

The author updates the ISO images every six months following new releases of Lubuntu. If you copy the bootable toolkit to USB, you may update PortableApps manually, and even add other tools that you require to it.

MediCat DVD has a lot to offer. You get four different versions and can pick the one that you want to use. If you are unsure, I suggest you pick one that includes the PortableApps suite, as it adds several tools to the troubleshooting environment that you can make good use of.

My virusscanner, Avast, give me some warnings about some exe files while making a bootable usb with medicat.
Is there a reason why Avast sees this as infected files?
Uploaded all 4 files to totalvirus.com with the results in the urls

Some products start as free for non commercial use. So if you use and older version, then you can get full capabilities for free. Old version is not always bad, updates mostly add more functions. Minitool Power Data Recovery as example. I have version 6.5 that is still free for non commercial use, if you use version 8, then it says only paid version. So by using an older version with less functions, you can still use products that have commercial versions. :)

Question for Medicat:
[Q]The author updates the ISO images every six months following new releases of Lubuntu. If you copy the bootable toolkit to USB, you may update PortableApps manually, and even add other tools that you require to it.[/Q]

I put it on USB by use of Multiboot YUMI, and indeed see a folder portable apps on the data. Can i simply put an extra folder in that portable apps folder to add own tools ? Or will i need to edit an index then as well ? For the new portable app to be placed in a certain catagory, as in hard disc tools or recovery ? Believe your release has mini tools 7, and that wont do more recovery then 1 gb. Version 6.5 does as many gb as you need for non commercial users ;)

A lot of you wanted to know how to make your own WinPE disc for Windows 10,
so I made a video to show you how easy it is to create your own bootable Windows 10 PE disk.
These are great for computer techs or I.T. Administrators.

This will take 6.8 GB of your disc space, but you can uninstall after creation.
This tool is only used to create your sheet to work on further, the engine.
Next parts we are going to customize the basic engine that we are creating here.

Ones you have boot up with WinPE, then you can go to my computer, browse to the stick.
And simply run your needed portable program from that folder.
Easy if you find new tools or updates, then you do not have to keep making a new boot disc.

MediCat USB packs so many tools on the same disk, that the total size of the download is 20 GB. This is almost 4 times than that of the latest Windows 10 ISO image. But it carries all the tools that could be needed when your PC is not able to boot or has been infected by a nasty malware. For putting it on a USB drive, we need at least a 32 GB pendrive with USB 3.0 interface. The developers suggest that we use a 64 GB USB 3.0 pendrive for better results.

It runs a mini-Windows which is a trimmed down version of Windows 10. When booted into Windows, we find the usual interface that we expect from a typical Windows 10 installation. There is a Start menu and there is the desktop. On both the desktop and the Start menu, we can find hundreds of shortcuts to useful tools. Most of these tools are open-source or free. But then there are some tools that are free for only personal use.

There are multiple tools provided for the same task. For example, it has many different partition management software. This is a bit redundant, but I guess if one software does not work for you then we can always try the other fifteen. It is always better to have a choice of multiple tools for the same task in any case.

While the use of compression algorithms differs depending on the application, data type, and speed and access requirements, data compression can be split into two main categories: lossy compression and lossless compression.

Theoretical work on data and file compression first began in the late 1940s. But as it became more complex over the decades, companies started utilizing third-party services and tools to compress their data into manageable sizes.

With a rapidly growing clientele, Medicat needed a way to adapt to the demand before it reached the limit of its IT infrastructure. Teaming up with IBM Business Partner Dynamix Group to deploy VersaStack, Medicat was able to use built-in automation and data compression capabilities to optimize performance and reduce infrastructure requirements.

AstraZeneca is a British-Swedish pharmaceutical and biotechnology company. It focuses on researching, discovering, and developing prescription medicines in Oncology as well as studying and mapping genomes.

Working with genetic sequences and complex chemical compounds results in massive amounts of data that AstraZeneca needs to keep track of. Partnering with PetaGene, AstraZeneca used PetaSuite to compress the genomics datasets for its Center for Genomics Research (CGR), resulting in an average data size reduction of 76%.

Tip1: To add shortcuts onto the Desktop of any WinPE OS to run your own portable apps each time it boots, change the WinPE wallpaper, autorun apps, add drivers and registry entries, etc. see here. The WinPE ISO does not need to be edited.

partition image files from each ISO file, however the contents of the E2B partition will not be accessible once booted to WinPE, but, if you use the .imgPTNLBAa23 file extension, then partition 2 of a E2B USB hard disk will be accessible from WinPE.

Some versions of Medicat are .ISO files but more modern ones are .IMG files or .ZIP files and are intended to be directly written to a fresh USB drive. The image contains Ventoy and has multiple partitions. These types of files cannot be directly added to an E2B USB drive.

Medicat v21 is in the form of zip files for use with 7Zip and Ventoy. You are supposed to extract the contents to the first partition of a previously-made Ventoy USB disk.

Instead, you can just copy all the files (except \autorun.inf and \autorun.ico) to the root of your E2B first NTFS partition and only use Ventoy to boot to Medicat. This will add lots of folders to the root however and you may overwrite the contents of your \ventoy folder which will affect your existing Ventoy theme and menu settings (if you have any). It may also interfere with any other WinPE ISOs you may add.

Tip: When making an .imgPTN file, you may wish to increase the image size that is suggested by MakePartmage so that you can add your own portable applications afterwards. Alternatively, if your E2B drive has a large second partition, use the .imgPTN23 file extension so that the 2nd partition will not be removed when you switch-in the new image.

If the WinBuilder WinPE has been built with the correct module, you can add Desktop shortcuts which point to your own portable apps on the E2B drive, change the wallpaper, auto-run programs and registry tweaks on startup and add drivers, all without modifying the ISO at all! See here for details of PEStartup.

The filename of the .ini file used by the WinBulder PE ISO may vary depending on what PE build you are using. The filename must not contain spaces and must end with .iso (do not use .isodefault or any other file extension). However, this will only work as long as you have just one WinBuilder PE ISO of each type (e.g. Win7PESE) on your E2B drive because, for example, you can only have one Win7PESE.ini file and thus only boot to one WinBuilder Win7PESE type of ISO file. See below for how to have multiple WinBuilder ISOs.

If your WinBuilder ISO does not use any of the .INI files already present in E2B, you must create a blank .INI file in the root of the E2B drive and use a .mnu file. Place the .iso and .mnu file in a 3rd-level folder (e.g. \_ISO\WINPE\MNU) so that only the .mnu file appears in the E2B menu.
