In this article, I will show you how to download, install, and configure FiveWin for Harbour/xHarbour, and how to create a simple Hello World application using the Fivedit editor. I will also explain some of the benefits of using FiveWin for your development projects.
What is FiveWin for Harbour/xHarbour?
FiveWin for Harbour/xHarbour is a product of FiveTech Software, a company founded by Antonio Linares in 1986. FiveTech Software specializes in developing tools and components for xBase programmers, such as Clipper, FoxPro, Visual FoxPro, xHarbour, and Harbour.
FiveWin for Harbour/xHarbour is based on the Harbour project, which is an open source compiler that aims to be compatible with Clipper and extend its functionality. xHarbour is a fork of Harbour that offers some additional features and enhancements.
FiveWin for Harbour/xHarbour consists of several components:
- A set of C libraries that wrap the Windows API functions and provide high-level classes and functions for common tasks.

How to Download and Install FiveWin for Harbour/xHarbour?

You will find several files with different extensions. The one you need is the .rar file that contains the full package of FiveWin. For example, at the time of writing this article, the latest file was fwh2105.rar .
You need to extract this file to a folder on your hard drive. For example, you can create a folder called C:\FWH and extract the contents of fwh2105.rar there. This will create a subfolder called FWH with several files and subfolders inside.
To complete the installation process, you need to set some environment variables that tell your system where to find the FiveWin files. You can do this by editing your autoexec.bat file or by using the Control Panel. The variables
