Dear Friends-
Lena Horne has just passed away after a long, illustrious life.  As a youngster in New York I remember first seeing her as a fine songstress in movies like "Cabin in The Sky."  However, this outstanding person deserves to be be well remembered as a champion of civil rights long before the marches of the'60s caught many up in the movement.  Lena's outspokenness, and her association with a mentor like Paul Robeson, kept her from getting some acting parts in her hey dey, nevertheless, she persisted in her assertiveness.  Her leadership helped to attract many others to support many of the civil rights organizations in her later life.  Her songs will always keep her memory fresh in my mind.
Your friend, John

Here's to Lena Horne, a powerful woman, a quality entertainer and a real beauty.

Thanks John, I didn't know she passed.
