Two well-known magicians will be holding workshops in the near
future.

Darwin Ortiz will be conducting a day-long workshop in North
Hollywood, California on 14 July. The workshop is limited to 50
(which in my opinion is about 25 too many) and costs $125, which
includes parking, a continental breakfast and a box lunch. For more
information to you can go to the website created for the event:

The following weekend will see a three-day workshop in Las Vegas with
Jay Nobelzada. This workshop runs 20-22 July (not the best time to be
in Las Vegas, but air conditioning is your friend). The Penguin Magic
blog entry for 1 June 2007 describes this workshop thus:

"I'm excited to tell you about The Noblezada Weekend Workshop that I'm
running on July 20th -22nd with a few of my close friends from Penguin
Magic. This is a 3 day, action-packed training seminar that will cover
everything from essential to advanced magic technique, thoughts on
inventing magic, and inside secrets on how to book magic gigs. Classes
will include in-depth lectures and lessons, intense hands-on
workshops, skill building team exercises and so much more! Plus we'll
be going to 2 of the hottest magic shows in Las Vegas!

Email Noblezada at: nobl...@gmail.com for more information. The
information pack is free (of course!) and there's no obligation (of
course!).

The cost of the three day workshop is $500. A bunch of stuff is
included as well as training materials from Penguin, but it's all
Noblezada putting the weekend together and making it happen. It's
gonna be a blast. Act fast if you're interested... Noblezada is
limiting registration to 20 students so everybody gets tons of time
and attention."

Despite Penguin's dubious reputation in the magic world, I believe
this workshop shows promise. The size restriction is such that the
participant should receive quite a bit of personal instruction that
will not be possible with the Ortiz workshop. For me, the truly scary
part is that I *could* actually attend Jay's workshop, even with the
knowledge that gas is $3+ per gallon and hotel rooms over the weekend
in Vegas are significantly more expensive than during the week.

This one is tempting...I only hope that 20 other people save me from
myself.
