Hi everyone...

I’m now at Asymtek in Carlsbad… J

Basically I am designing boards for machines that dispense epoxy and other liquids robotically for chip manufacturers and assembly houses, we even make ‘form-a-gasket’ dispensing machines, plasma etchers, and PCB assembly inspection machines. (Lots of Robotics and machine control).

I want to get the collective feedback from the group on what we feel we need to focus on and where we think we should be addressing issues, educating, and communicating back to Altium.

Please feel free to express your thoughts and concerns. I will try to get the meeting prepped and ready to go. I see a lack of activity from the Altium side and need to get the lines of communication opened up and flowing again.

I’m looking forward to your involvement and participation too. J I need your help and we need the help of each of the members to make this a living breathing organization that benefits all of us.

Sharon Mohr has already expressed her desire to help as well… and has helped as we have moved along through the year…J

I enjoyed the almost 12 years I was at Datron and will miss working with my colleagues there and wish them the best of success as they work thru this year… I’m really enjoying working with my new friends at Nordson Asymtek in Carlsbad… there’s lots to do and its fun! (I love robotics… J )

Hope to hear from all the members as soon as possible.

 Best regards,

Bill Brooks, President

It was good to see some of our members at the IPC deisngers Council meeting last week

We are considering having our next meeting in the first week of October 2012.

We are also considering  holding it at Nordson Asymtek here in Carlsbad, there are quite a few users here… and it is very close to the old Altium building… J

Afternoon meeting or evening meeting? We could do either one… Lunch time might be easier…

We need to prepare a subject matter and arrange for a presenter for the meeting too…

Discussion  topics…  (some ideas I have)

1)      DBlib usage…  - I had some good experiences with the DBlib interfacing with the MRP/ERP system

2)      Ways to automate tasks?  - Creating parts has lots of opportunities to automate tasks…

3)      What are members doing with Altium? – Asymtek is using Altium to document their cables… J

4)      Suggestions for the developers?  - I have had to do a lot of manual work to a board because someone used too small a via size on their design…

a.       A DFM warning system would be a good help aid to add to the software.

b.      Also a method to automatically make adjustments to routes based on upsizing the vias in a board would have saved me a lot of time.

c.       A way to store and input the bare board manufacturer’s tolerances and DFM rules would be nice for those that do very difficult boards that can only go to certain manufacturing facilities…

d.      ??? your suggestions?

Best regards,

Bill Brooks

Hello Bill,

I have enjoyed attending the Altium User Group meetings. However the meetings have been really just Altium product demonstrations lead by Altium. I was hoping to see more involvement from the attending users, like sharing best practices and ideas.

Dear Bill,

San Diego PCB, Inc. stands ready to support the AUG, we would like to be included in the rotation of facilities for hosting the AUG meetings.

We will be moving to our new facility located at 9909 Mira Mesa Blvd. Suite 250 San Diego, CA 92131, this weekend and will be up and running next week.

Our new location is located at the SE corner of I-15 & Mira Mesa blvd in Scripps Ranch. We can easily accommodate 30-40 attendees.

We can provide lunch if your time selections is that time of day.

I really appreciate all your efforts to keep this AUG on the move!

Best regards,

Hi Bill,

I have created an advanced DBLib Database Frontend (GUI) which supports multiple users and has some very interesting features like:

* Supporting multiple users and librarians simultaneously.
* Offline CAD Library Maintenance with the ability to sync and merge offline changes to the shared network copy of the library.
* Pulls parametric data from popular suppliers like Dig-key and Mouser.

For more details visit Parts blog:

I have not done much public speaking, but I'd be happy demonstrate how I created an advanced DBLib solution.

Best regards,
Randy Clemmons CID+

Hi Bill,

I think it would be interesting to hold a feature request meeting once a year. In the meeting attending volunteers would present feature requests to the group.

Ideally Altium would send one of their software support engineers to the meeting to take note of the user requested features.

Attending members maybe motivated to vote for feature requests on the Altium "Ideas" forum if they see value in the requested features.
