SAUG Members,

I would like to petition the membership for volunteers to assist in the creation of a standards/guide for Altium Designer users to use to help make our methods more uniform and make parts more portable and useful in some sort of a library exchange that has yet to be determined. Suggestions have been made in our Altium Users Group meetings that we could all benefit from a standard layer methodology… something beyond the current configuration that Altium has provided for 16 mechanical layers. There are many things that we all do differently and the consensus was that if we had a guide to use as a standard, more users would adopt it rather than invent their own methods which may be incompatible with others and may discourage cooperative assistance within the group.

We will be accepting your nominations for volunteers for the ADUG Design Standards Committee for the next 30 days. You may nominate yourself or someone you think would be a good candidate for the committee that can contribute a minimum of 2 hours a month to the effort. We are asking for this commitment mainly so we can correspond individually and meet as a group to hash out the details over the next 6 months and prepare a draft for the users to review, make changes and eventually approve and adopt it.

We appreciate all the fine comments and participation that each user brings to the meetings and encourage your further involvement to make the San Diego Altium Users Group a successful asset to the community of designers and engineers using Altium Designer.

Best regards,

Bill

Altium users,

I have not received enough support from our group (only 1 volunteer so far) to move forward with this Project to come up with standard layers, methods, etc for pcb designs.

I am going to postpone this project until after the first of the year and revisit it in January. Those of you that are interested in this and want to help assist in the creation of a standard for pcb design, please e-mail me with your ideas and proposals. I will gather them together and present them with our next correspondence.

Have a happy holiday and new year... :)
