Its most annoying if I am playing Call Of Duty - Modern Warfare; when it
occurs, it never reconnects.I have been converted to ADSL2+. My connection is not particularly good. I get
a downstream rate between 2400 and 3500 Kbps. So, I'm wondering what causes it. I'm guessing that the line is being retrained
frequently. Is this because the line is bad? Should it cause the connection to be dropped
when it is retraining? Is there anything I can do about it (eg. a way to fix it
at a lower rate to stop frequent retrain occurances)? What is the recommended DSL Modulation setting to use? I've always used G.dmt,
but I think other modes work. My router is a Linksys WAG54GX2, and supports:
Multimode, T1.413, G.Dmt, G.lite, ADSL2, ADSL2+.
Philip,The following is from Demon's ADSL2+ web page;>>>>>>>>>>"One issue that has been identified with a small number of customers
is that some routers may not correctly identify the change in
connection once the migration to the new Demon 2+ service has
completed and thus may select an incorrect transmission mode. The
correct router transmission mode for Demon 2+ is g.992.5 Annex A.
Some routers will call this mode either ADSL 2+ annex or ADSL 2+ auto.
If the router transmission mode is set to multimode, g.dmt or another
setting (which some routers may switch to incorrectly) then the
following *could* happen:
1) The router will not sync at all.
2) The router will sync but only at previous Demon Broadband speeds or
less.
Selecting the correct transmission mode in the router configuration as
outlined above will resolve these issues.">>>>>>>>>>Your Linksys router should be set to ADSL2+. You should then switch
the router off for a few seconds and then switch it back on again.
Once it resyncs your connection speed should, all being well, be
higher than before. My Linksys WAG160n originally connected at 8Mbit
but after the upgrade it now connects at about 11Mbit.Hope this helps.

I tried it in ADSL2+ mode initially when Demon switched me over, but it seemed
to result in a slower rate.I tried switching over again last night, and the connection speed seems about
the same. i.e. I get a little bit more downstream than I did previously with
ADSL.However, I still seem to have frequent link issues. Looking at the router log,
the link went down a few times over night. Connection uptime in some cases were
10.5 mins and 20 mins!
