Da Vinci film put on hold in India

Mumbai: The film version of Dan Brown's  bestseller, The Da Vinci Code, was all set to hit Indian theatres on the 19th of May, simultaneously along with its worldwide release.

But according to reports, Sony Pictures, the Indian distributors of the film, have now decided to wait for the reaction the film receives in other Asian and Non-Asian centres.

The Da Vinci Code, which stars Tom Hanks, has been facing opposition from the All India Christian Council.

Mumbai-based Catholic Secular Forum (CSF) has threatened to go on "fast unto death" from May 12 if the Government fails to stop the release of "anti-Christian movies" like The Da Vinci Code and Tickle My Funny Bone.

CSF General Secretary, Joseph Dias said thousands of Christians will assemble at Canossa Convent in suburban Mahim, on Wednesday to protest against anti-Christian films and to demand special legislation against films and books hurting the religious sentiments of communities.

He said if the Government does not take action to stall the release of the two movies, they would go on fast unto death from May 12.

Last week, the forum had filed a complaint with the Vakola police, while calling for initiation of criminal proceedings against Sony Pictures managing director, Uday Singh.

Tickle My Funny Bone's actor-producer-director Yogendra Konkar and Censor Board chaiperson Sharmila Tagore have also been held responsible for the proposed release of the two movies and CSF has sought their arrest "for hurting religious sentiments."

According to CSF, the two films have hurt the sentiments of not just the Christian community but also of other religions.

The book is not an attack on Christianity even though it may appear so
for a casual reader.. In India, too much religious freedom is given..
so anyone can make noise on any religious issue. these kind of
Religion should be banned from public places in India.

There is nothing to be amazed in the book... An average book written
in an average language.. It contains references to some 'history' but
mostly fiction and exaggerations. The book says something about the
distortions done by Roman Catholic Church... but mainly the book is
confined to Christ and his relationship with Mary Magdalane and the
'secret society' in which Leaonardo, Newton ect were supposed to be
me,bers of (the significance of which seems to be greatly
exaggerated). Saucy material but ignores more important questions (see
below) and sitortions to Christianity done by Paul and later by the
Roman Empire.

The book fails to mention about Christ's life before he was 30, and
after he was crucified...

The book ends with putting all the blame for the murders in the book
on the Englishman, thereby clearing the Church, Opus Dei etc of any
crime! Without this CLEAN CERTFICATE to the Church the book would
never have seen the light!

I do not think the Church is against the book. The story of Christ's
romance with Magdalane is too weak and irrelevant in the light of
other things which have been covered up by the Roman Church in the
early days.

If Emperor Constantine had not accepted Christianity, we would have
never known about this as a religion as we know today! What we have
today is the Roman-Paul version of the religion, very different from
what Jesus preached (which was closer to Buddism ).

[A more historical book is "JESUS CHRIST IN INDIA" BY HELGER
KERSTEN...This one answers the question (which everyone should have
asked) : what happened to Christ's body?

Ascended to heaven is a religious explanation. Since the bible talks
about Jesus tryingt o convince St Thomas that he is indeed alive, by
making Thomas touch the half-healed wounds on Jesus's hand. There
indeed was a physical person alive after the crucification. Then where
did he go? Where was he buried (then or later)? ]
