Hopefully, everyone is having a nice summer, and are managing to stay safe, well, and cool!
As everyone knows, our communities are experiencing difficult times. And because of these current situations, many events are going through changes. So is the case with The Club at Horseshoe Bay Resort Mah Jongg 2020 Tournament. The committee chairs have made the difficult decision to delay the tournament until spring.
We made this decision after much research and considerations:
· We have spoken to other MJ tournament directors, who also are delaying their tournaments.
· We have consulted with various local business leaders, who support our decision and indicate they will continue their support of our tournament in the future. It is a very troubling thought right now to ask businesses that have been closed for over a month to donate to our tournament.
· There are still many restrictions on the hotel, which may or may not change by October.
· We knew we were going to have to change our October date anyway because of all of the events that have had to change at the hotel because of the pandemic.
· And, most importantly, we feel we need to give our community and businesses some time to recover both financially and mentally from this situation.
We want our tournament to continue to be the premier tournament it has always been! With the current conditions and the fluidity of how things are going to be in October, delaying it to the spring will give us a much better opportunity to do that. Also, we are hoping we can have a tournament without restrictions in the hotel, without the requirement of wearing masks, and without having to social distance.
However, even though we are delaying the tournament, our beneficiary still needs donations because The Helping Center is still feeding many people in our community! We feel it is imperative to continue supporting this organization, now more than ever. To help with this, we are providing a link, The Helping Center, which connects directly to the website of The Helping Center. By clicking on this link, donations can be made very easily. We are hoping that ladies in the Mah Jongg communities will help this organization continue the necessary work to feed people in need.
We will be sending out a new Save the Date email in September, so be looking for it! Also, any hotel reservations for the tournament that were previously made have been cancelled.
We have been working, and will continue to work, to make sure our tournament is as wonderful as ever! A Save the Date email will be sent in September to let everyone know our new date. Thank you for your support through all of the years of our tournament! And we certainly appreciate your understanding of our decision!
