Good morning, Friends,

Cybil and I plan to read the 2026 daily devotional publication from Upper Room publications.   there's a scripture from the Revised Common Lectionary for each day, and each week has reflections on the scripture by a different author than the previous week (I'm not certain whether the total number of writers is 52)

My parents have been using the Upper Room "discipline" for over 30 years, and I recently learned that one of my high-school garage-band friends has collected copies from approximately the last 10 years.
One of my favorite Quakers in Santa Cruz Meeting described the Upper Room devotional as "dangerously fundamentalist" - but I don't necessarily believe that reading the Bible isn't intended to be dangerous.

Anyone who wants to can order a copy from the link below, or:

Sarah Frey  -  aka  "Jesse's Mom," will be ordering a box of them on Monday, and they are expected to arrive on approximately Thanksgiving, so I could bring them to Friends @ Meeting during the Advent season.

If you need a Bible, I have a spare one, or maybe two

blessings,
Jesse

Jesse,

This is a worthwhile activity. Upper Room was started by Methodists and is intended to be an ecumenical publication. It is very mainstream Protestant, not evangelical or fundamentalist. If you want an evangelical devotional, try the Quaker Fruit of the Vine. Maybe there are several in the worship group who might like to occasionally read this as a group?

Thanks, Jerry - for the clarification.

I agree completely.

Fruit of the Vine is an interesting insight into Evangelical Friends & Upper Room is very ecumenical.

Everyday Contemplative is another excellent Upper Room book for Friends interested in an ecumenical perspective on what many Friends seek or expectantly wait for in Meeting for Worship.

blessings,
Jesse
