Dear Climate Friends,

Good news!  Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 468 into law (see below) on Friday!

Congratulations to Senator Kehoe and Deanna Spehn and appreciation to everyone that came together to support it.

The opening has been made, now it’s our turn to apply the force.

SANDAG is scheduled to vote on the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), at 9 A.M. on October 28.  Numerous letters have been submitted to SANDAG expressing concern about the RTP, including the attached letter, from the office of the Attorney GeneralIn the letter, the Attorney General alerts SANDAG that the draft regional transportation plan does not meet the statewide targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

This RTP will determine how $217 Billion of our tax dollars are allocated for regional transportation through 2050. It will determine which projects get funded and the transportation available to us in the coming decades. Right now, SANDAG is taking a business as usual approach to build roads and highways.  I believe that the folks on SANDAG ultimately want to do a good job and get it right, but they need more guidance.  They need to hear about our strong, steady support for mass transit, clean air, better health and more jobs.  They need to hear about the future that we would like to see for our region.

Mark your calendars:

October 28, 9 A.M. – Noon

401 B Street, 7th Floor, San Diego, 92101  Map

The meeting will be covered by the media and SANDAG’s decision will affect our region for decades.  Talking points will be provided in the coming weeks.

Your participation and your voice at this meeting are greatly appreciated.

Together we can build a better future.

Thanks and best always,

Anne
