UC San Diego is holding the first annual Triton Gaming Expo, a student-run showcase that celebrates all things gaming for students, academics, and developers

I graduated from UCSD in 2008, a time when the school considered video games to be a "waste of time" compared to other academic pursuits. Today there is more academic attention than ever being paid to the game industry and games as an art form, and we as game developers have the opportunity to help foster and grow this momentum.

I think it's important to show students that being involved in the game industry is an attainable goal, and passion for video games can turn into a lifelong and fulfilling creative pursuit. If we can convince even one student to pursue their life's passion, then I believe our time at the expo will have been well spent.

Triton Gaming Expo provides free showcase space to all San Diego developers for your games, and presentation slots are available if you would like to give a talk about your career in games.

The event is an open free event for all attendees, and lasts for a single day, on May 22.
