Hello feminists!

I am very pleased to let everyone know that Jessika managed to get a
copy of “Daddy I Do.” Watch the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXVPjg7gNBw
We will be showing it Sunday July 11th at 3:45 PM at Lestat’s West
(3343 Adams Ave). Cost: free. Bring friends!

Our next book is ‘Ain’t I a Woman?’ by bell hooks. The meeting is
scheduled for July 19th (Monday) at 6:30 PM at Progressive Health
(2141 El Cajon Blvd). Please bring book suggestions for September’s
book choice – Beyond the Gender Binary.

If you are the individual who suggested bell hooks’ ‘Ain’t I a Woman?’
please email me personally about the discussion questions.

As an aside- San Diego Pride is the 17th, so please come out and show
support for the queer community! http://www.sandiegopride.org/

Hey Peeps,

We seem to be lacking some discussion questions for tomorrow's
discussion. It would probably go better if people brought ideas about
1st and 2nd wave feminism, Women of Color (WOC), and
intersectionality. We're all opinionated and educated people. Our
recently relocated (but still active) member Angela reviewed the book
on Goodreads and had some interesting points. Going off of a few
interesting Goodreads reviews:

-As a classic feminist novel, what does this book say about the first
and second waves of feminism? What doesn't it say?

-How should the surviving records mentioning the lives of Black slave
women in colonial and post-colonial America be viewed?

-Does bell hooks' lack of discussion about class contribute to the
perceived bias of her book?

-In what ways, if any, did White women benefit from slavery?

Disclaimed: these questions could suck because I'm only a quarter of
the way through the book and anyone can post a review on Goodreads.

-Jessika
